Makes you realize getting around by car has never been the most efficient form of travel no matter the width of a lane or roadway.

Congestion is always a thing caused by cars themselves.

Don’t worry though. They’re ripping out more bike lanes so we can shove more cars on already crammed streets. Our provincial mayor really loves us.

His brother used to read while driving. Which is incredible. I never knew he could read.

Imagine how well that would flow with one more lane.

Edit actually it looks like one lane is ending here, as the leftmost (our right) drivers are squeezing over. But actually, induced demand means it’ll always be full.

That red truck in the middle: back when cabs let you and your big buddy sit real close for that togetherness feeling on a long haul.

Toronto is a big city and needs a car for sure. I don't say Street car, subway, bus and bikes are not working, but working around GTA is the problem.

The 3 levels of government back in the late 90s and early 2000's identified that moving costs and related issues also contributed to the GTAs problem. If you work in Mississauga. You probably want to live nearby. But job security is long dead, so when your next gig is in Scarborough or pickering, you probably want to move, but housing costs, moving costs and transaction costs especially like the land transfer tax often make it too expensive to move. So more people lock down a home and stay forever and commute unreasonable amounts.

Reducing friction to make moving fast easy and cheap would produce massive benefits across the transportation domain.

especially like the land transfer tax

LTT on $800K house in GTA: $25,000

    Real Estate broker fees: $40,000

Idiots have been commuting Barrie to Toronto since the 70s.
