Unfortunately my PS5 is updated and my mom uses it a lot for streaming since the TV in the living room is shitty and only have netflix and youtube. I'll stop updating it when we can move out and wait for an exploit, it could become a sick Steam Machine for me in the future.

You could currently go and buy a PS5 off the shelf at a store, bring it home, and have ps1/2/3/4/psp/5/xbox/xbox360/switch/basically anything similar to those running faster than someone who bought a game with it and put the disc in would
as someone still on a ps4:
i've heard that linux can also be installed on the ps4, but i've heard that it runs like a pile of shit? (sorry for slightly going off topic)
I got one a couple of weeks ago as soon as the relapse jailbreak dropped and I am so glad that I did.
Just this week alone there has been a hypervisor exploit found for consoles 13.60 and below and people have been booting every generation of PlayStation games from the disc, including PS1 with the use of a USB CD-ROM drive.
Things are moving so fast and it is great to see!
Is there a decent guide to get me started somewhere? I literally haven't touched my PS5 in probably a year so I know it's on an old firmware
Lmao, my dust-gathering PS5 about to become useful
Anything under 13.60
If you've updated it since then, is there any hope of reverting back somehow?
my stupid ass held off getting one for $400 new last year because i'm holding out for PS6 (or for the PC parts market to go back to normal)
You can still get them pretty cheap second hand. For how useful they'll be anyway.
Plus when someone figures out how to run ai on it the prices will double
Here's hoping the Chinese make some game changing revolutionary new format that leapfrogs the data center hoarding and makes gaming affordable again.
Because of the restrictions on litography machines, they were pretty much forced to optimize and research tech before western companies to be able to complete. Latest examples are Huawei's Kirin chips "LogicFolding" (distributing logic from the same chip over multiple stacked layers) and CXMT preparing to launch 4F² memory two years before Samsung.
This means that if, inshallah, they manage to manufacture their own UV litography machines, they could already be at the lead.
This means little on the short term for gaming affordability though. That being said, CXMT had a gigantic boom and are expanding dramatically. They plan to overtake Micron and become the third biggest DRAM provider by 2030. Just last year marketshare charts were lumping them with "Others"
Is there a place that has the lowdown on the exploit methods available? Like https://kindlemodding.org/ but for the PS5?
