On the decline. Recently there’s been a push for a everyone to use AI. While I admit there are tasks it can do effectively, it is taking the satisfaction out of my work. I enjoy solving problems on my own rather than reviewing output, and when there are errors, I spend more time trying to locate them than if I had done the process from start to finish. I’m worried that this will become inevitable in the industry even if I find a new job now which doesn’t do this at the moment.

  • Me too, exactly this. I'm also worried that a year from now, nobody on my team will even know how to review the ai generated code.

My managers do not care to hear about this. They need more efficiency right now and they don't care about next year.

  • Weirdly. Staff got cut in half because of everybody rolling their own versions of the product for themselves with AI. Feels like my days are as numbered as the company's, but I think it can go for a while in a lower gear. Still lots to do and now I'm the only one on call, so I'm staying busy without feeling pressure to do so. The people that remain aren't the ones I was social with, so I'm glad my partner is also wfh and we have cats.

I work at a golf course. The season has come to an end so the course will be slowing down. Some people's hours will be cut. We have some autonomous mowers on the course. First it was one to cut some rough grass, then another. Now there are two for cutting fairways as well. I do more of the grunt work that is less likely to be automated. I'm not that concerned whether my job gets automated though. I can find some other asshole to underpay me if I lose my shitty job.

Busy as fuck. My company decided it would be fun to buy the remnants of a failed startup and have our staff resurrect their projects. Of course we didn't hire more people to lift the extra load, nor were any pre-existing projects de-prioritized. So now I have a task list long enough for three people, and multiple project managers each asking me when I'll be done with their pet project.

Not bad. I'm back in my CNC department for a little while. Running slow, difficult parts. If I have to be here, this is what I'd rather be doing.

As someone who's working in an auto repair industry:

Bad enough that i want to leave the entire industry, but good enough that i fear it might be a wrong move.

I've got a supremely cushy job, so I know it's stupid to complain, but my god do I fucking hate it.

Nobody knows how to do anything, myself included. So I'm pretty sure I'm doing a bad job, but no one knows enough to realize that yet. But at some point the shoe is going to drop, and a ton of very big, very expensive projects are going to be very late. In the meantime most of the job is creating reports for my boss and his boss to show that I'm doing my job, but the metrics they want on the reports don't reflect what the job actually is. And I literally have 20 KPIs that they ask me to measure. It's absolutely insane and deeply unfulfilling.

And they are renovating the offices across campus, so they stuck a bunch of people in to the cubes around me while they do. Last week, I shared an entire floor of 150+ cubicals with two other people. This week, dozens of people are moving in directly around me and drinking up all my K-cups. I could go full remote, but I've been too depressed and anxious to set up my home office.

I'm so in the throes of burnout and just hoping every day that I win the lottery.

Im out of work from a repetitive back sprain. Part way through Occupational Therapy and my symptoms are looking more like early onset osteoarthritis or a similar degenerative disorder.

Im alive, but in constant pain. It fluctuates, and it was tolerable at times. Distractions help.
