I like the idea that these reviewers all had the concept for a perfect Barbie movie, and are then criticising this one for not living up to it.

I think that - like most people - when I heard that Gerwig was making a movie out of Barbie, I thought: how the hell is she going to do that?

Seems like she kind of stuck the landing. 89% with over 100 reviews on RT.

Oh cool. Never had a doubt of course. Off to Narnia next apparently (which means I'll have to wait even longer for my imagined Gerwig Star Wars, unfortunately).

I forgot she was making this, for some reason I thought it was Baz Luhrmann. Now I can't imagine what the movie is like!

One recurring joke motif, in which a character (usually our main Barbie) says something unexpectedly perspicacious or academic, is done to death.

I don't know about that, seemed to work out well here.

Barbie is willing to tease its commercial mission and its overlords, but really only if it is followed by a “hey, we’re just having fun here” pat of reassurance.

Only in theaters. :)

I saw it yesterday in the cinema. It was a perfect mix of fun and serious. I really enjoyed myself. The movie lives up to the hype!

This movie must have a huge marketing budget

It’s an all star cast and a famous director. It most definitely does. They reskinned Google search for “Barbie” searches. That’s a lot of money.

I noticed that on mobile browser, pretty neat.
