Sorry for late thread this week! Had a weird Sunday, so it slipped my mind.

So yeah, have you done any language learning this week, and how did it go?

I am shifting language study into maintenance mode for the next 3 months, meaning i just do my anki reviews and occasionally get some input through reading or videos (Spanish, mandarin and khmer)

But I also started a khmer grammar wiki on my website, just for the purposes of being able to send notes i have written to my friends when they ask

AHHHH I PASSED A FULL MOCK EXAM!

I cried, I laughed, I ate celebratory pizza. And I still have two full months of runway to build in a nice buffer for bad luck on the real thing (it was a barely passing score).

Got lots of data now for a good plan: mostly improving reading speed, but also grammar flashcards and some targeted listening practice.

    Onward and upward!

That's awesome to hear! Congrats! I'm fully confident you'll pass the real thing as well.

That said, building a buffer is easier said than done. What's the plan to improve reading speed? I guess it has to be just read a lot?

Pretty much. I've actually got tons of Shin Kanzen Master's reading comprehension book I haven't finished yet, which is a nice, big pile of content at the same level and in the same language registers. I imagine all I have to do is go through it. That said, since I'm doing so well on the practice questions in the book, I might do some quick research on what I can do to concentrate especially on speed, since I imagine I'd at least double my score on the section if I didn't run out of time in it.

Doing okay these days. Doing bare minimum 30 mins Japanese and 30 mins Spanish. Haven't touched my Irish in a long while. Really focusing on doing a lot with Japanese though so a lot of days is more like hour or more dedicated study for Japanese.

Girlfriends birthday soon so trying to find the time to make a piece of art for her before then. Next also the maths I'm having to restart due to financial complications that made me pause it for a while. Then somedays I play chess, or read, depending on the mood.

Really need to work on Irish at some point though, but it's such a hassle with even 2 languages, I have no idea how polyglots deal with 3 or more and still have a full week of work and obligations. I'm the furthest thing from a polyglot seeing as I don't even speak 2 languages yet, let alone more. But goals are goals I guess.

Seriously! I've been trying to dip my toes into some new ones while also not dropping Japanese and it's just like... there's no time for this! It takes a lot to stay curious and juggle 2 or 3 languages (plus other hobbies and work). My solution is just to fail at it and learn poorly. T_T

I'm completely winded these days. I'm amazed I even have time for Japanese and Spanish, let alone also doing the Irish. I figure thought when I get to N3/B2, it'll be easier to absorb content/information that way, but I feel that's still a very long way off even so. I sink in an hour a day of Japanese and it's like I'm getting nowhere fast. I'm able to vaguely understand tidbits I come across online, but more than likely I have to reach for a dictionary in most cases. I know this is a temporary problem, but due to how long this has been a temporary problem, it sure does feel like a permanent problem.

    3 languages? Insane!

My like 700 anki backlog is down to 300 (no new words, just trying to recover from a month of not doing Anki). Once the backlog is worked through, I'll start new word learning again.

I happened to be listening to a newscast and a German speaker came up. I actually fully understood everything, albeit it's just a simple sound bite of just a few sentences.

My speaking continues to be terrible, but that will likely be the case forever. Or seemingly forever anyway, everyone says speaking / writing takes the longest time to get, and I'm not in a position where I can seriously practice speaking or writing yet.
