Trying to convince people to not haemorrhage money to corpos is fucking impossible. Every single way you can try to make it seem convenient, cheaper, better, more ethical: "oh yeah, maybe. i'm just gunna' try subscribing to disneyplus+ instead, dude".

I saw the best minds of my generation destroyed by lag, starving hysterical caffeinated,

dragging themselves through the Barrens at dawn looking for an angry raptor fix,

orc-headed night owls burning for the ancient heavenly connection to the server in the basement of Blizzard,

who sat up all night in the glowing glare of the monitor contemplating aggro,

who bared their brains to the raid leader and saw angels staggering on gryphon-back illuminated,

who passed through universities with radiant cool eyes hallucinating loot drops and cooldown timers among the scholars of war,

who wiped on Onyxia for seven straight hours, screaming at the healer through crackling headsets,

who ate cold Hot Pockets in the sudden flash of a level-up, dreaming of the promised land of Outland,

who pawned their real-life weekends for a 0.1% chance at a purple pixelated sword,

who vanished into nowhere, leaving behind only an away message, empty energy drink cans, and a level 60 Mage.

Kinda curious about the context behind this. I’m playing the beta and think it’s pretty solid.

Blizzard honestly. Unless something changed drastically within the last 5-8ish years since I last played, Blizzard makes games that create toxic players at their base. They allow things like DPS meters. They allow their mechanics to be beaten by sheer brute strength instead of actually doing the fight correctly. Their mechanics often have very confusing visual designs (see Thunder King and stand in this lighting but not that lighting). Honestly, this is just off the top of my head, trying to not scratch at some traumatic memories. This isn't even getting into the sex scandels cosby suit stuff, and the fact that Ghostcrawler was a big part of the base game and went to be the lead developer of the most toxic gaming communities of all time (League of Legends).

To my understanding from my family who still play, it's kind of a soulless husk of itself, and that's really saying something. Anyone who actually cared about the creation game left around the time of the great rat jumping ship era, right before the sex scandal was revealed. It's main focus is to try and get as much money out of you as possible while giving less for its sub.

Don't even get me started on the lore. I heard what they did to Sylvanus, like, someone should be smacked for that alone and that's not mentioning all the other things. Like, the lore was never good; I say that as someone who was obsessed with it, but fucking hell. If it's going to be slop, at least let it be fun slop.

For clarity, I started WoW when I was very young. And played all the way from BC to 7.3. I had the Time Lost Proto Drake (which will always be my big fish story). They finally crossed a line with a patch, something to do about gatekeeping content for no reason a second time. I told myself, I would stop playing if they did it again, and I did.

figured it was sarcasm about leaving the toxic of wow but just playing it again in a different form.

Should I play the beta? I have access to it, but I also feel like I'd like to be surprised on day 1; then again playing the beta can be a unique experience that can't be replicated (probably); I'm personally waiting to log in minute 1 on release day and roll my undead rogue (or maybe paladin as they've now fixed tanking for them!).

It really depends on whether or not you want to bother submitting bug reports. Progress gets wiped prior to release anyways so it depends on if you are bothered by that. Also there are still a lot of bugs. I genuinely hope people are reporting them.

The inaccuracy of this comic is that there's been multiple classic timelines.

    2019 - WoW Classic Vanilla release - Timeline 1
2021 - WoW Classic Burning Crusade - Timeline 2 - transferring from Vanilla to TBC was optional
2021 - WoW Season of Mastery Vanilla - Timeline 3
2022 - WoW Classic Wrath of the Lich King - Timeline 2 - all character on TBC were advanced to WotLK
2023 - WoW Hardcore Vanilla - Timeline 4 - your character gets deleted if you die in this version
2023 - WoW Season of Discovery - Timeline 5 - this was a different version of vanilla where character levels were capped below 60 and had converted the original vanilla dungeons into 10m raids
2024 - WoW "Fresh" Vanilla - Timeline 6 - this was meant to be a repeat of the 2019 release
    2024 - WoW Classic Cataclysm - Timeline 2
2025 - WoW Classic Mist of Pandaria - Timeline 2
    2026 - WoW "Fresh" Burning Crusade - Timeline 6

WoW forever will be the 7th? release of Vanilla.

This is how I feel, but I'm the person who got out and in a good relationship with FF14 watching other people with my ex on the street going "that poor bastard"

One of the reasons I stopped playing retail around super early Cata period was because I didn't have the freedom to enjoy all the content (when I was young there was little guarantee I could stay at my PC reliably to raid or even do long dungeons, hence I missed all the end game content and decided there was literally no point in sticking around); when I joined up for classic, I had the freedom and independence to see a raid through to the end, and enjoyed raiding with a guild; I ended up leaving again but I can't recall why I lost interest. I came back just before the release of Cata and joined a guild there and finally did some raiding and had a heck of a time (but left again before the deathwing raid dropped; our guild leader just fell off the face the earth and none of use were guild leader material and the guild just died as everyone just dropped WoW). Raid mechanics were also hard in Cata (lots of stuff that needs fast reaction time), and as I've been hearing, it just gets harder and harder; someone told me modern retail makes Cata mechanics seem like child's play, reading through the mechanics for just one boss fight (dimensius I think his name was) I'm inclined to agree.

I'm looking forward to raiding in forever and here's to hoping old style raiding is at play, cause I really don't want to have like a million mechanics running through my head (whilst requiring fortnite speed reactions) while also trying to maintain high dps, or tanking reliably.
