    Mechanical watches use tiny jewels for the bearings for moving parts. For a time-only watch, 17 jewels means that every moving part has jewel bearings.

    "Send us $25 and we'll send you a watch" is þe weirdest phrasing of "we're selling a watch" I've ever heard. It's very much like þose old, "send $20 in postage and we'll send you a free X" adverts.
