I had an indoor/outdoor cat when I was younger. One day I was curious where she went when she left the house so I tailed her. When she caught me, she was not happy. I was not where I was supposed to be so she walked back to the house, turning every few steps to yell at me and make sure I was following. I was clearly an indoor house human and not allowed outside.

One of mine knows the sound of my car pulling in the driveway and she meets me at the door, and if I get in too fast I’ll hear the “thump thump” of her coming down the stairs alongside her chirp as she realizes she’s “late” to be picked up and loved on.
The other gets mad if I’m in bed or out of bed at the “wrong” times as well. Her cuddle-chill balance is at stake!
Mine yells at my wife as soon as I get home from work, because she knows that’s about when my wife’s job lets her go as well. She always gives the cat a treat after work.
My male cat knows the exact second it's noon. Because noon is lunchtime. He will wake up from a deep sleep the moment it becomes 12. There's no alarm going off or anything like that. It's just his internal clock.
I miss my baby boy. That beautiful, dumb, orange prince always let me know if I was staying up too late or staying in bed too long.
If I get food delivered, my boy sits facing the door and turns his neck to stare in my direction. He alerts me before the app notification.
I found most of these routines to be actual pattern recognition for food conditioning. They are masters of pattern recognition and highly food-motivated, so they remember even more elaborate ones if it involves food. "If it's noon-ish and the fat man is fidgeting in the kitchen and has opened the knife drawer and I stand on x chair I receive snack"
Absolutely! 2 of mine would rush to check me out as I hone my chef's knife. If I happen to only be chopping vegetables, I have to show them so they can sneer at me and walk away, otherwise they will plan themselves there waiting for the inevitable morsel of raw meat
Oh yes. "Around middle of the day human lady will eat. Sometimes she eats foods she'll give me tastes of. Sometimes she says "Sorry, poison for cats". I must try every day." So she sits very pretty next to the couch and waits for either a nibble or to be told sorry, poison for cats! She does huff at that though lol
My cat is very non-food motivated (doesnt care that ive filled his bowl and rarely eats the occasional snack/treat i offer) but will absolutely smack my face if i try to sleep in past 6:57am.
Mine reminds me to eat in the evenings. If I haven't started cooking by 7 he gets up and starts meowing at me, trying to get me to follow him.
I have made my sleeping schedule 30 minutes earlier due to our cat. He also knows when its bed time, and will let me know its bed time so that he can clean himself on me for 15 minutes before leaving and terrorizing mice until the exact moment the sun rises. I used to joke saying "well he knows what's best for us" when waken up at like 5am. Not a very popular joke at that time in the morning.
We have a churu time now too. Just everything is a routine and if you do something new he expects to do it again the next day. One day I brought him out and we hung out by a fallen tree sitting enjoying outside. Next day he wanted to go sit at the tree again.
I helped him dig a hole to pee in and now when we are on a walk first thing in the morning its my job to dig him a potty.
And you have to stick to a schedule or they start acting out in some way. Out cat meows at us while staring every 20 minutes, or will try to initiate play and do a trill noise, then promptly run away trying to get us to chase him. He will run up and down the stairs and through the house, or up the truck of a tree if hes outside. If he gets playtime and his routine in hes content and will sleep the rest of the day. Otherwise he is very disruptive to what you have to do in the day.
are they the only ones around here who give a damn about the Rules?
Making me think of Walter Sobchak as a cat
Cat schedules are the best. Being regular is good for humans too. They are only helping.
If I go to bed later than normal, my cat will yell at me and nibble at my ankles until I get into bed.
I feel this is just the posters giving away what rigid and predictable lives they live.
Cats know their feeding schedule, but a cat raised with a human who varies their routine doesn't do this.
Yeah I have ADHD and can't maintain a consistent routine and my cat does not give a shit other than getting fed.
Yeah, I don't feed my cats any of my food, essentially only do treats for claw trimming, and go to bed some time between 11 and 1. They are just hanging out all the time.
Yeah, if I am up late playing games one or more cats will come and paw at me like, "Aye, get your ass to bed."
My cat ran into itself once. Made a real grimaced mackering splat. The fat fu ker didn't even. In the tapioca. Like, the fuck is his problem? Cats are do not is not a thing.
Do you smell toast?
Sir, do we need to call an ambulance? Sir? SIR?!
Excuse me, my pronouns are it/it.
