Spend the holidays with family: valid

Spend the holidays alone with your cats: ALSO valid!

I just realized I don’t give my cats turkey cat food on Thanksgiving OR Christmas.

    I’m a monster!

The cat doesn’t look happy with the arrangement.

Hell yeah. My husband and I have the best holidays because it's just us and our cats. No drama, no stress. Kinda like what a holiday should be.

Good company > no company > bad company.

Take the next step and remove yourself from holiday traditions. I only observe the solstice/equinox dates.

Why? It's fun to celebrate stuff.

Oh yes, I love to celebrate manufactured stress, commercial pressure, and exhausting social obligations. /s

I love to celebrate good food with the friends and family I care deeply about, and I love seeing them happy. There's people who arent worth it, like the OP no-contact can be the best choice and there's swaths of my family I don't talk to, but throwing the baby out with the bathwater here just makes life less full.

Column B for me. Yeah, when I think about it too much it stings but so much better than anxiously hoping things go well and consistently blowing up in my face.

Choose peace on the holidays. Set boundaries and walk away if boundaries are ignored.

If it’s Christmas, my cat gets reindeer.

Thanksgiving is generally me, husband, twin. Twin works on Thanksgiving (hopefully, cause it's extra pay) so I'll make a turkey, mashed taters, rolls. It's much calmer than the holidays we spend with mother and her new family.

It's easier that way. Much, much easier.

Can't help but agree with that, except I replace cats with my siblings. Cutting contact can be among the best things to do for one's metal health.

I do miss my mom, but then I remember her doubling down on being a conservative despite her gay son having nearly been killed in 1999 for coming out in HS. You can't argue with stupid, and you can't indulge it either.

Both my wife’s and my fathers died within a year of each other. Christmas is just us and moms now and it’s… a lot better. Good food and no drama.

Hell yee, get it! (And by "it" I mean mean self-reliance and mental health!)

I feel like the cat his name should either be mister meowsers or mister mousers.

But not mowsers. This angered me more than it should. Like people deliberately spelling names in a special way just to be unique >.>
