I can't believe that anybody has watched the entire season of this truly dog shit show. The acting and writing are so bad, so horrendous that it isn't even funny bad. It's difficult to watch. I torrented the first episode not knowing what it was and only discovered who made it afterwards.

heretics! heretics all! what kind of "christian" media is trying to rehabilitate the devilry of witches? there's exactly one class of christian magic user and it's called a saint. is merlin a saint? then be gone with him! fuckass fake christians making fakeass neonazi propaganda

there's a heap of actual christian figures from the period that could center an authentically christian fable about the anglosaxons but that'd be a story about gay shit like charity, aboltionism, and preaching instead of "cool" English Defense League murder fantasy

it occurs to me that marketing materials create a false equivalence between streaming views and movie tickets.

like, back when going to the movies was the standard, i watched some junk for sure, but the stakes were higher. i would commit to watching certain movies no matter what anyone said, but people's opinions and reviews did matter for the majority of movies. if something was talked about as great by many, i would see it. or i would later rent it.

nowadays, i watch all kinds of shit that sucks, just because I'm bored and the cost is just my own time. and maybe im just waiting for my food to finish cooking. i think there is a lot more casual media consumption happening now than 20 years ago.

so like, when something is "rocketing to the top" for views, it's not really that big of a signal. to me, it means its probably just not god awful boring and its maybe arriving when there isn't much else going on in the genre lately.

IDK if this show is actually good or not (on it's own merits, outside of it's political context) but AFAIK after The Hobbit's Slop Trilogy and Game of Thrones epic season 8 rakestomp the market is probably desperate for anything passable to fill this kind of epic medieval fantasy void.

“Oh this? Must be because I’m that awesome to keep beating you at your own game lol!”

This is at least in large part not true. This series specifically was a useless money sink on release and probably still is, and "socially progressive" media (whether genuinely or more often disingenuously) does way better. It's more popular to have an affectation of progressivism because minorities can also give you money, the loss of frothing chuds (who are usually only lost in part) is offset by performative libs, and normal people aren't put off by it the same way as they will be by, for example, the Run Hide Fight sequel coming up. Obviously media can't be "too" progressive, and there are stark exceptions like with the subject of the military, but in terms of how it relates to mainstream society within the imperial core, it leans on the "SJW" side to use your turn of phrase.

I don't know who is gaslighting you on this subject, since chuds and libs frequently agree that the libs are more popular and they are correct in this case. There are some chuds who do silent majority rhetoric, but even at the Daily Wire the official line is that it's basically an even split in terms of the population but lib media is way more successful (they have explicitly discussed this to justify their media ventures), which is downplaying that they are also a minority popularly, but is nonetheless closer to the truth than "chuds are widely beloved in every facet of media and have a superior standing to libs".
