“The Wailing” was my favorite that I’ve seen recently. Can’t really articulate why but I just found it extremely engrossing start to finish

• リング ( The Ring ) ( recently watched for the first time a few years back and it was pretty good )

• Get Out ( that's a movie that has stuck with me since seeing it in theater )

• Us ( the 2019 film ) ( same deal as get out, except at home instead of theater )

• Coraline ( I know it's children's horror, but it is still pretty disturbing, IMO, even as an adult )

• Perfect Blue ( my first time watching it messed with my head with how they played with sense of time and what's real vs fake )

The Thing! The original, not the prequel (although I wouldn't call that one bad). A close second would have to be The Descent.

I really love the goofiness of Happy Death Day. Good slasher without taking itself too seriously. Sleepaway Camp 1 and 2. I think the Autopsy of Jane Doe has just the right amount of terror for me. I watch it every October. Same with Trick 'R Treat, I never miss that one.

Hokum was the most recent one that really captured me. A lot of people missed it but I think it's absolutely worth a watch. Good Halloween vibes. Oh, and Undertone was scary as shit.

• Aliens: Peak James Cameron action and suspense, with lots of cool, iconic scifi elements.
• Predator: A very different horror movie, originally disguised as a macho action movie. Still worth a rewatch now and again for its action and great jungle setting.
• The Mummy: A fun action romp. The horror, comedy, and action all help to balance each other out.
• Tremors: My go to example of the ideal B-horror movie. Not much budget or flashy effects, but great writing and escalating tension.

  I hesitated to put Obsession on the list because of how new it is, but it has stuck in my brain the same way all of my favorites have.

Talk To Me (2022) is one that I found particularily scary. Send Help is the latest Sam Raimi film and is a lot of fun, with his signature zany style. Hokum was great, too, starring Adam Scott playing a likeable asshole. These aren't necessarily my favorites, just ones that come to mind that I've seen recently. I watch a lot of horror.

"[Rec]" is the best zombie movie I've seen.

Favourite would be ones I can watch over and over, like Evil Dead 2, Planet Terror, Drag Me To Hell and The Substance

There's a few I've seen which stuck with me in a different way though, like Eden Lake, Martyrs and The Sadness. Not in a hurry to rewatch, but still memorable.

I'll try my hand at an all Asian list, I think they do horror in a different, more uncomfortable, way:

• Audition (2000) - even better if you can find the directors commentary. The guy is fucked in the head.
• Ring (1998) - a classic, watch it in Japanese, the director pushed the actors to change their voice to make the movie uncomfortable. Avoid the American remake trash.
• Dark water (2002) - same director as Ring, he'll make you scared of that humidity patch on your ceiling or a puddle of water on the street.
• Ju-On: the grudge (2002) - just the sounds will make you check the room behind you.
• Train to Busan (2016) - a different take on zombie movies, now considered a classic and appears on most zombie movie lists.
• The Host (2006) - monster horror, no frills.
• A tale of two sisters (2003)

I'd add Kingdom(2019) as another different take on zombies, this is a TV show though.

There's so much more to explore in Asian filmography, just search for best Asian horror movies and you won't be disappointed.
