DSA devastated yet again
If you ask me, he is a Zionist. Why? Because he is a Jewish exceptionalist. His behaviour indicates that he sees Jews not as equals but as a special people, as more than others, as superior you may even say.
He is not even a socialist too. So why is anyone who calls themselves a leftist supporting this muppet again? Electing less shitty liberals are the key to socialism?
America has no left.
Not this again, are we going to have this struggle session all over again where you get clowned for garbage sectarian takes with the worst reading of theory known to man?
At least come up with a better line other then copy and pasting the same garbage over and over
So why is anyone who calls themselves a leftist supporting this muppet again?
The same reason leftists have a degree of support for Iran in its fight against the U.S., or Russia in its fight against NATO.
El-Sayed supports Nazi Ukraine, does not support Iran, does not support armed Palestinian resistance, and denounced Cuba and Venezuela as "authoritarian". Yes, we understand critical support for non-communist anti-imperialists. We do not understand why we should support imperialist socdems.
I oppose the illegal and unjustifiable war in Iran and demand an immediate end to the hostilities. While I oppose a nuclear-armed Iran, I understand that diplomatic means of achieving that goal are more effective and come with a far lower human cost, just as President Obama had achieved under the JCPOA.
That's quite a bit different than "doesn't support Iran."
The only mention of Ukraine on his campaign website is:
When we act in the interest of human rights and democracy–as in supporting Ukraine against Russian invasion
That's a very standard bad lib take. But that's just the difference between a party worth critical support and one worth a fuller measure of support -- the former has some bad positions! Look at Russia's relationship with Israel.
Because Iran and Russia good, and US bad. there, simple for you. Left unity is unity with anti-imperialists actually.
Iran is a theocracy and Russia is capitalist. They aren't good, they are currently resisting imperialism. Hence why support for them is critical support.
support for anything is critical support, when should our support ever be uncritical? this smells like idealism that we should only really put our true support behind perfect dictatorships of the proletariat, leave the Iranians and Russians to deal with their internal problems. Imperialism has risen to become the principal contradiction of capitalism, Russia and Iran literally are examples of anti-capitalist countries. And the theocracy bullshit I hear from westerners is exaggerated propaganda they probably picked up from Israeli edited wikipedia. Iran is probably the best country in terms of religious freedom and human rights in all of West Asia.
How is Russia anti-capitalist? They are anti-imperialist at the moment, which is not the same thing.
when should our support ever be uncritical?
leave the Iranians and Russians to deal with their internal problems.
You can't say all support is critical, then in the next breath say any criticism (of Russia for being capitalist, or Iran for being a theocracy) is impermissible interference in a country's internal affairs.
Russia and Iran are anti-capitalist because they're anti-imperialist and anti-imperialism is essential for the current form of capitalism to continue existing and imperialism must be defeated for socialist revolution to become possible. Your whining about Russia and Iran being bad and how awful it is for you to support them only serves to promote a paternalistic colonialist attitude among leftists in the global North towards the global South. You cannot affect politics in Iran or Russia, only Iranians and Russians can cause that change so stay in your lane unless you've done real historical materialist analysis of the conditions of those countries instead of calling them "bad".
Wild comparison. Comparing another DSA sweetheart to actual nations combatting western imperialism...
There are plenty of examples of when leftists have reason to support non-leftists. Those are just two very obvious, current ones.
If you can wrap your head around preferring that a theocracy or another capitalist country win in a conflict with the U.S., you should be able to wrap your head around preferring that El-Sayed win.
What does Abdul's win benefit?
Right now, our tax dollars and American-made weapons are being used to perpetrate a genocide in Gaza, illegal settlements in the West Bank and Jerusalem, and the attempted annexation of Southern Lebanon. That must end. I support immediate and comprehensive enforcement of U.S. laws that condition the provision of military aid and sales. And I support an immediate arms embargo on Israel and reject the false differentiation between “offensive” and “defensive” weapons.
From his campaign website. That's a seismic shift from decades of bipartisan, unflinching support for Isrsel. There is no way to actually enact that policy that doesn't start with getting more people who support it in power.
Bold of you to assume supporting the DSA is congruent with the rest of those objectives you listed when in fact our goal is the fastest possible destruction of the USA, not a prolonged struggle that takes down the rest of the world with it
when in fact our goal is the fastest possible destruction of the USA
accelerationism time
our goal is the fastest possible destruction of the USA
OK, what's your plan for this? Until there's a credible answer to that, there is no reason to attack one of the handful of U.S. politicians who is willing to call a genocide a genocide.
The thing is, he did make a statement the day the zionists "Blacks Rule"-d their synagogue. It was pretty pathetic: "shocked and horrified, hate has no home" etc. And now he has to grovel to zionists even more because they thought he didn't do it enough the first time.
Here's what I can find on context: https://www.msn.com/en-us/news/other/i-made-a-mistake-abdul-el-sayed-apologizes-to-michigan-jews-for-past-comments-about-synagogue-attack/ar-AA2bcJlT
The Democratic nominee told the room that his remarks following the attempted targeting of the West Bloomfield synagogue preschool, in which he had said, in part, “Hurt people hurt people,” were intended to provide “context.”
Reflecting on them, he said on Saturday, “I made a mistake.”
“If my statement caused pain, I’m sorry. It was not what I intended to do,” El-Sayed continued. Referencing the first of two statements he had made about the attack, he added, “We issued a statement, of course, condemning it, and that just should have been it, full stop.”
El-Sayed’s initial Temple Israel comments, which many Jews interpreted as justifying the attack, have alienated Jewish voters in the state. After an initial statement condemning the attack, El-Sayed then followed up with one referencing Israel’s war in Lebanon, where the attacker had lost family in an Israel airstrike.
On Saturday, El-Sayed, a former county health director, insisted that his push for “context” to the attack was broadly appropriate, but not at that moment, explaining that such “conversations” could happen “in the fullness of time.”
“Sometimes you can’t really see context in the moment of acuity or pain,” he said. “The intention for me was not to trample that pain. It was not to discount it. It was not at all to justify any sort of domestic terrorism. That’s wrong, full stop.”
So it's a bit of an oversimplification to say he's apologizing for an anti-israel stance (to be honest, it sounds like what he originally said barely qualifies as anti-israel in the first place - more just "hey, this is how consequences of actions work"). But nevertheless, it is for sure wishy washy "I was technically right to say what I did but I shouldn't have said it" stuff typical of electoralism con artistry, so I still wouldn't trust him. Not that we should be in the habit of trusting bourgeoisie electoralism candidates in the first place.
It's a lot more than an oversimplification. I'd put it somewhere between "taking a statement out of context to put it in the worst possible light" and "blatant misrepresentation."
There are reasonable questions about how far to trust El-Sayed, how to talk about imperial blowback to mass audience, etc. Jumping on any statement short of "death to amerikka, unlimited genocide on the first world" doesn't get us closer to any answers.
death to amerikkka, unlimited genocide on the first world.
but seriously why the fuck are you an electoralist? it can literally never get anywhere in amerikkka?
There is no reason to ever apologize to Zionists under any circumstance. Give them an inch and they take a mile. They can never be appeased and any apology will be seen as weakness and opportunity to extract further and further concessions. What will he apologize for next?
There are reasonable questions about how far to trust El-Sayed,
And he has answered them very clearly with this, his second round of kowtowing to the zionists who run his party!
Even when I was lib, I despised the Yankee electoral system for reasons like this. Much of it is candidates paying lip service to sectioned out demographics as a marketing campaign and opposing interests paying to find whatever dirt, real or slander, that they can to make the person look as bad as possible. It has almost nothing to do with finding people who are qualified to implement actually good policy and everything to do with filtering out anyone who will challenge capital or empire.
That is backstabbing beyond the SPD, it's on the level of the german greens.
