The Eiffel Tower was forced to close on Monday after staff went on strike to protest the “sidelining” and “replacement” of female employees during a recent visit by a Hindu delegation. The Paris landmark's operator said the group had requested that the private visit be organised in such a way as to limit “interactions with women”.
Some 86 years earlier, another deeply intolerant person arrived in Paris and demanded to be shown the Eiffel Tower. The maintenance staff of the tower disconnected the lift cable, informing his entourage that it was out of order.
