Meanwhile the two apps I still use not on F-Driod or able to pull with Obtanium are downloaded from Aurora.

Fuck. Google.

Mind if I ask which apps? Is it possible for you to contact the devs and ask them to publish standalone APKs?

Oh, one of them is Substack which I am considering dropping because it updates ten times a week and gets worse every time...

The other is a bank app, which does not require Google Play Services, but only releases via PLay.

I already gave up on CashApp, they are so embedded in the derp... And it used to work, evenm on Lineage.

I've gotten a few updates to go through after repeatedly clearing the cache and trying new accounts, but yeah it's pretty fucked lately. Google's probably trying to crack down on the burner accounts it uses.

It's trying to close their system off further because there's a lot more tracking that can be enabled if you use their official app

If you have GrapheneOS though, the playstore is sandboxed and gets no priveleges or tracking. Just an fyi to anyone.

That's true! But I believe that you still need an account and, of course, the play store collects some data about the device its installed on/installing apps on. Depends on peoples threat/privacy model if they want that or not.

Either way, a sad day for open source that aurora is being blocked.

I've been seeing that error sometimes lately. However, after seeing this post I opened Aurora and successfully updated an app. Anon account and VPN, fwiw.

Every time I see someone post about Aurora, I check and it always loads for me.

Front ends get blocked, it's just the way it is.

I dunno, works for me sometimes and then stops working. I'm not logged in with any account
