The three good heathens (picture unrelated)

Who knew Alexander was a landsknecht? that's so crazy.
Tf did Hector do to get put up there with the other two? I’m not expert of the Troy legend but all I know is he got his shit kicked in by the ankle man
He's the most positively portrayed character in the Iliad. Everyone else is a selfish asshole, but Hector is an honorable dude and he even gets some loving scenes with his wife and infant son. The last line of the poem is "Such was the funeral of Hector, tamer of horses." Achilles's mistreatment of Hector's corpse is considered to be seriously fucked up.
Wasn't he one of the few mortals who didn't have a god really tipping the scales for him, unlike everybody else? He was a good warrior fair and square
At least that's what I rember from an illiad commentary I once read.
Yes. There were gods (Ares, Poseidon, Zeus) and goddesses (Aphrodite, naturally) on the side of the Trojans but Hector had mortal parents and came by his victories naturally. The gods may have diverted a spear or two, however, because his charioteers are the Iliad's unluckiest redshirts.
