You've got it completely right. This was practically the world cup final between Argentina and Spain. It's mind boggling how much blatant shoving and pulling the Argentinian team got away with before one of the players finally got expelled from the game.

What's mind boggling is how easy it is to manipulate large numbers of people to believe things that literally oppose what they're seeing with their own eyes. Also how people that clearly never (or barely) watched any football at all in their entire lives are now experts in the matter.

As far as I remember, this is not World Cup exclusive, this happens with anything else that get famous. Like when some artist become famous because of some TikTok posts and then suddenly people start saying that they've been listening to that famous since day one?

There was some kind of campaign against not only argentina but south american teams in general. Futbol is a physical, contact permitted sport. Literally a part of the rules. When European teams have large capable players using their force it gets lauded as athletic and a wonderful display of physicality.

When south american teams do it they're called dirty and cheaters.

Borderline racist to be honest.

Did the Argentinian players behave like idiots post Spain loss? Yeah, paredes and molina were idiots. Does any coverage of the Spanish player instigations get news coverage? Fat chance, even though fifa reviews also found them at fault and they too were penalized. Gavi even came out on record to say paredes shouldn't have been penalized. I don't agree but it demonstrates an understanding that the game gets heated and altercations like this can happen. The reporting and narrative though is wild.

I mean soccer is from the British so blame them for why we call it that. But it’s really not even that big of a deal since both sports are ___ football. American football is Gridiron football, and the other is Association football, both got shortened to just football which makes it confusing.

The word "football" is typically used to refer to the most popular style of football in an area. In the US that's American football. In Australia that's Aussie rules football. Other less common forms of football (in a given area) usually get another word to distinguish them, like rugby or soccer. All of these sports are under the umbrella of football whether you like it or not, and claiming they're not is just plain ignorant of what the word football means.

It's also deeply funny that you claim the word soccer wasn't British by... admitting that the word soccer is British. Lol.

You still don't understand what "football" is. Association football is the most popular in the world, so in regions where it's the most popular they call it "football" and other forms by other names. In regions where other games of football are more popular they call those sports "football" and call other forms by other names (e.g., soccer).

You being completely ignorant of the history and current landscape of all football sports does not mean it is incorrect to call any other form of football "football."

Other points:

Much of the Anglosphere, including Australia, call association football "soccer." It is very much not just the US.
Being okay with "Aussie rules football" but not "American football" is patently absurd and betrays that:
It was not a strawman it was a clearly accurate insight into your position that you just wanted to be anti-American, your reply here is also dripping with it.
I'm not saying outliers are the norm. I'm saying everywhere calls the most popular form of football in that area simply "football"
Your obsession with ball shape similarly betrays your ignorance of football since there are many forms of football that use more oval shaped balls.
Also it wasn't a strawman when someone said the word came from the British you replied with "no."
