Hiii! Yes, my friend recommended this place and I had never heard of it before. He said it was better than reddit. 😃

Well you've done the hard part and managed to find Lemmy, make an account and post something. Doing great so far.

This is nationally a reddit replacement and works similarly. It does have less content and is more fragmented (search for memes communities and see how many ones there are across instances), but it's a good experience and has helped me stop using reddit completely. I would recommend browsing by "all".

Finding a good app or frontend helps improve the experience. I use Boost on Android and Alexandrite on desktop.

It's basically like Reddit, but without an AI to spy on you, and without digital ID.

I should warn that it's also toxic if you're someone like me, who speaks (and stands) for what he believes to be the truth in a hivemind of those who can't handle it. The reason? Me exposing control systems tied to the Vatican, but that's neither here nor there. I even got banned from an instance (and I had a PieFed account wiped) due to what turned out to be a statement that's psychologically and scientifically proven to be true. What I did was help people (or attempt to help people) see the issue with a specific mindset that tends to lead to a specific crime on here, and the admins couldn't handle it (likely because I hurt their feelings more than anything else), admitting that statement to be true by banning me.

It looks like Reddit and functions like email, which is to say it mostly doesn’t matter what service you signed up with, they all interact for the most part. We have some bad people on a couple of instances but either they don’t interact with the rest of us or the rest of us don’t interact with them. Sometimes instances disagree on politics or something and there’s drama, but you can safely ignore most of it.

It kinda works lite reddit, but without any central authority.
