A drag queen isn't necessarily gay, right?

[-] Tiger666@lemmy.ca 6 points 23 hours ago

Why would someone downvote you for your comment? Maybe a straight woman is also a drag queen? Maybe a straight guy is a drag queen? WTF?

[-] Leviathan@lemmy.world 1 points 21 hours ago

There was a straight guy on drag race and a bio Queen on Canada's Drag Race, so not necessarily anything in particular, but the art in it's current form is most definitely an LGBT creation.

[-] kaklerbitmap@lemmy.world 1 points 19 hours ago

But do they have a clever mob-related drag queen name?

[-] generic_computers@lemmy.zip 4 points 1 day ago

Are there pictures of said Drag Queen? I need to see this!

[-] rapchee@lemmy.world 25 points 1 day ago

for some reason i think "boss's son" is more relevant than the rest

[-] Grandwolf319@sh.itjust.works 25 points 1 day ago

Isn’t this another case of only caring about something once it happens to you?

[-] Leviathan@lemmy.world 1 points 21 hours ago

Most definitely.

[-] GandalftheBlack@feddit.org 6 points 1 day ago

I read "Mafia drops ban" in the sense of "new ban just dropped", as if the opposite happened

[-] Cris_Citrus@piefed.zip 32 points 1 day ago

Cool echo of history given the maffia/mob ran many of the bars where queer people were welcome when things like cross dressing was criminalized

If I remember right the bar where stonewall started was a mafia or mob run bar

[-] GalacticGrapefruit@lemmy.world 12 points 1 day ago

It was, but they were far from allies. They muscled on their patrons as often as the cops did to drag more cash out of them, because they knew they had a blackmailable secret and they couldn't go to the cops.

[-] Cris_Citrus@piefed.zip 1 points 20 hours ago

Thanks for explaining that context, I didn't know much about the nature of those arrangements

[-] crazycraw@crazypeople.online 75 points 2 days ago

it's not what you know; it's who you know.

..and that guy knows a guy.

[-] NigelFrobisher@aussie.zone 8 points 1 day ago

He’s a made woman.

[-] Brickhead92@lemmy.world 6 points 1 day ago

What's that, you're looking for the right shade of eye liner to go with a bright pink sequined top... Yeah, I might know a guy. What's it too ya?

[-] Inucune@lemmy.world 44 points 2 days ago

This has bad summer comedy written all over it.

[-] chad@sh.itjust.works 12 points 1 day ago

It's like Oscar meets Birdcage. Which are 2 fantastic movies if you haven't seen either.

[-] VindictiveJudge@lemmy.world 3 points 1 day ago

I haven't seen Birdcage, but I did enjoy Oscar.

[-] 5765313496@lemmy.world 3 points 1 day ago

It's the opposite for me. Was it a biopic about the muppet?

[-] VindictiveJudge@lemmy.world 5 points 1 day ago

Sylvester Stalone plays a mob boss trying to go straight right as everything starts going to hell from everyone's zany schemes starting to pile up on top of each other.

[-] blockheadjt@sh.itjust.works 18 points 1 day ago

Sounds like they're still homophobic, just restraining themselves since they'd rather not sleep with the fishes

[-] NihilsineNefas@slrpnk.net 7 points 1 day ago

Sounds to me like they'd rather sleep with the boss' son

The Mafia being more inclusive than most governments.

[-] EggInDisguise@lemmy.blahaj.zone 28 points 1 day ago

No, it still tracks.

Not inclusive until the thing in question personally affects someone in charge.

[-] applebusch@lemmy.blahaj.zone 4 points 1 day ago

the only ethical homo is my homo

[-] chonglibloodsport@lemmy.world 8 points 1 day ago

Mafias are basically proto governments. They have all the functions of government but they’re less formalized and they struggle to achieve a monopoly on organized violence.

Bigotry arises from a failure in education, it's ignorance. They just needed to look.
