Please please please start adding real world maps! The game is good but there are fuck all places to actually drive.
night driving is finally bearable
Looks nice. What is it for?
Edit: wait, a vehicle crash simulator?
It's much more than that. It's essentially a driving engine. You can use it to model crashes, but since the cars are so well modelled, you can also race them.
It seems to be a really good framework for rally games for instance.
Yup, basically
It's a very cool project
One of my major complaints with BeamNG is that I could never get it to look how I wanted. I'd love a guide on how to achieve what is shown in this video. I have tried so many reshade or 3rd party presets to help with the look. I still feel the game is not very user friendly either. There is just too much going on at times in terms of the menu. I'd love a dumbed down 'arcade' settings preset.
Well, this video is about an update so maybe now it has changed?
Also, the menus have also been adjusted in the same update, maybe you could check it out if you haven't already?
The menu is a massive improvement. I've been messing with it a couple hours this morning and whilst yes, it looks better I am definitely seeing a large drop in FPS especially when traffic is added.
I saw an fps drop too. Normally I can play between High and Ultra with the latter only giving the mildest of stutters. If I tweak individual settings, even ultra runs well.
After the update, I can only run High and I have to tune the settings to make it work well.
Having said that, high looks pretty good right now, so I'm not sure it is really comparable with the old high setting!
I've downloaded it, but, and I know this sounds crazy its just too hot and sticky to be playing games in the UK right now.
crazy
It's 25°C with >60% humidity at 12 am here, I can very much relate.
You meant pm, midnight?
By convention, "12 a.m." denotes midnight and "12 p.m." denotes noon.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/12-hour_clock#Confusion_at_noon_and_midnight
00:00 vs. 12:00 is less confusing.
My youngest has a thousand hours plus in this game, but every time I've seen him play it, he spends more time faffing about in the menus than driving it. I made a comment about it one day, and he said that's what's fun about it. (His Steam review just says "It's not bad" LOL)
I kind of agree, though, although I prefer just driving in it. There's a setting for everything. I wish more games were as configurable.
That said, I understand your frustration with that.
I can see it almost being a very useful "tool" for people who are so inclined. Race teams using it for sim training etc, i think you could even learn to drive with it, but for me it just doesnt cut it as a game. Not yet, well, its been around what 10 years?
I think there are mods that essentially use BeamNG to make a game
Totally fair. My go to gag for that kind of comment is "well it's only in early access" :)
It is very much a sandbox where you have to make your own fun. I personally like to just hop in and drive around because I reckon it has the best feeling force feedback and driving physics in any simulator available. And the fear of crashing is real, especially in VR.
I can recommend Jimmy Broadbent's Beamng videos from over the years. There's some wild and wonderful scenarios on there.
You can achieve a lot more with environment and time of day settings in the game itself than some random reshade preset. Especially now with these changes. Dramatic lighten is key
My kid has been playing this game for a while and loves it but this update has been nothing but trouble. We had the settings dialed in and running great on his Linux PC and now it runs like absolute drek and all of the road-signs are blank (odd issue) and the dashboard inside of the cars are fuzzed out and super blurry. Tried adjusting the settings to get the FPS back to about where they were (75@1080p) but no idea what needs to be changed to fix the other issues. Apparently there were a ton of complaints already posted so hopefully the devs will do a hotfix or something.
the game has a verify files and cleanup tool, would recommend using that. i had some performance issues after updating the last few times as well, and these fixed it for me every time. could also be mods though
Ahh ok, I think this is worth a try and I don't believe there are any mods installed.
Are these options accessible via the in-game menus or some other way? Since this is running via Steam I am guessing it would be done using the Properties sub-menu? Thank you for the suggestion!
see the docs here: https://documentation.beamng.com/support/launcher_support_tools/clear_cache/
Some of the issues might fix themselves updating the mods over the next week or so. Most of my maps have missing textures and I'm waiting for the creators to update them to work with the new release. I'm not sure how long that usually takes.
What a massive update. So many great changes in this one.
Here's their blog post highlighting the biggest changes: https://www.beamng.com/game/news/blog/beamng-drive-v0-39/

I suppose this was meant as a joke? I play along...
