Don't forget, Sony also chose to continue development on Marathon, a game nobody wants, a game nobody is playing, a game nobody will play, over Destiny 2, which has an order of magnitude more players and followers and has brought in far more money. In fact, Destiny 2 is what allowed them to make Marathon in the first fucking place. And the best part is, nobody on their own fucking console is playing Marathon. Yet they decided to pump more money into that game instead.

Herman Hulst is a fucking idiot.

And one last point, this post also forgets to mention that they will no longer ever publish single player games to PC.

And I'm just here playing on GoG.

Actually undersells the shittiness slightly, they aren't just removing 500 movies/shows from the PS Store, but people who previously paid for them will no longer have access either

PS3 was the peak of Sony. Free online multiplayer, reverse compatibility with PS1 and 2 discs (depending on console model), amazing first party titles, and the biggest jump in graphical capabilities between generations.

Each subsequent generation has been both a decline in value, quantity of exclusive titles, and graphical capabilities. It's time to say goodbye to the PlayStation and move on to Steam/Linux for the foreseeable future.

Nah, PS3 was just like today. Just their arrogance bit them in the butt.

PS3 was $599USD and was made fun of for that. They had no games and just expected devs to come to them. Like they did with PS2. They didn’t see Xbox as a threat… until they were.

Difference was back then the 360 was competition. So Sony had to come back swinging.

They dropped the price (by loosing PS2 backward compatibility and streamlining the hardware), they paid out the nose for exclusives, from both their first party devs (uncharted, resistance, Infamous, LittleBigPlanet) but also the new and growing market of indi devs (Journey, PixelJunk Monsters, Patchwork Heroes).

It’s why the end of the gen, PS3 matches the sales of Xbox. And why when PS4 came out they moved must of the “greatest hits” over to PS4.

However their attitude remained, not learning from this. It doomed the Vita, and it’s hurting them now. Sony needs real competition, and while it’s there with PC. They don’t see it, just like with Xbox and I don’t they they will see it until it’s too late.

The only defense I'll make towards the $600 launch price is the console shipped with a bluray player and at the time the cheapest bluray player was $1,200. I remember joking "why buy a bluray player when for the same money you could buy two PS3's?"

Project Helix could do the most funniest shit ever 💿

You forgot "sabotaging their customers' property by forcibly removing OtherOS."

Sony has always been a shitty wannabe monopolist, but PS3 is when the gaming division really started disrespecting its customers.

I was with PlayStation until I got married. Had PS1 and PS2. Got married, wife wanted Xbox. We missed the OG, but we got 360, XB1, and XSX. I liked the 360 but at times it made me wish I had a PS3, because PS3 had Blu-ray and 360 didn't. XB1 flat-out sucked. I got a great deal on the PS3. I like my PS3 way more than the XB1. By the way, XB1's contemporary PlayStation was the PS4. I never had a PS4. I liked the PS3 (contemporary to the 360) more than the XB1.

I only own the XSX because of All Access. For $35 a month, I got GamePass Ultimate (at the $15/month price even after it went up) and the other $20 went toward the console. 2 years later it was mine and I owed nothing else. Bonus, I got the $500 console for $480 ($20 times 24 payments). Also, I was getting GPU for $15 when month-to-month payers were paying $30. So there was that, too. Because basically I bought this $900 bundle and made payments on it. Zero interest though, and I saved $20 on the console. Heck of a deal. If Sony matched it, I'd have a PS5 instead.

I still have that PS3. It's a 60GB "Slim" model. I paid $150 for it and like a dozen games, but most of which I have no interest in. Skyrim and Saints Row: The Third were there, though. I should go for those plats someday, but I never chased trophies.

To be honest, PlayStation started a while ago to be a bit of a mess and it just keeps getting worse. Like another Lemmy user pointed out, it’s not just that they removed the movies and TV shows, but also that they removed it from people who have bought it. They never refunded the money. Prices of games have been going up bit by bit and it will continue to do so. Especially if their "digital only" policy rolls out because that's when they have full control over the prices and their customers.

I have bought the PlayStation 5 and regret it, honestly. It has been collecting dust after the first few months. Been playing games on my PC instead. Won't be purchasing the PlayStation 6 when it comes out. It’s just not worth it.

I bought the PS2 and the PS5. These are the only PlayStations I will buy. Sony is run by idiots.

Im glad I jumped ship from playstation after the PS4, before PC prices were as astronomical as they are now =w=

Fun thing about living in a country that doesn't even have PSN support despite the fact you can buy a playstation here: you can't even buy games from the PS online store without jumping through a bunch of hoops like buying gift cards for whatever country you set your PSN to

[-] DoucheBagMcSwag@lemmy.dbzer0.com 2 points 15 hours ago

Sony looks at your country as a 3rd world shit hole that they feel is not worth their time. Make sure you reciprocate the same feelings have to them when the PS6 comes out

[-] TabbsTheBat@pawb.social 2 points 15 hours ago

Oh I was done with sony after the PS4 =w=

Gaming on PC was just astronomically better in every way, even some which made me laugh at the irony, like controller support. I play all games on controller still (my old dualshock 4 for now, but I did queue for the steam controller) and I can't go back to playing the games I have on playstation, just cause most of the features I make use of daily on the controller aren't properly supported on playstation despite it having the hardware lol

But also being able to actually buy DLC for games without jumping through the whole giftcard thing, not having a charge for multiplayer, mods, indies, freedom of choosing which marketplace I buy from, refund policies, performance, playing with friends (most of my friends are on PC), and all the other non-gaming apps I can run, and additional devices like extra screens etc.. there's just nothing about playstation that makes the experience better or more worth it in any way for me

So yeah :3. I wasn't planning on buying a console if I can help it lol

Really can't tell you who's worst, Sony, Nintendo, or Xbox. If only Gabecube is less expensive and much more powerful and available worldwide...

[-] Mwa 2 points 18 hours ago* (last edited 18 hours ago)

So far:
Nintendo = Known for(and often made fun off) sueing anyone who makes fan content(deleting fan content aswell) and 70 usd bare minimum games.
Xbox = parent company supports a certain genocide.
Sony = screwing their Customers and forcing only one place to buy games.
All of them:
Subscription to play multiplayer

[-] ModernRisk@lemmy.dbzer0.com 2 points 19 hours ago

Really can’t tell you who’s worst, Sony, Nintendo, or Xbox.

They are all pretty much the same. Just a different name. They all want most control over their customers, their wallets, their games, and devices. None of them care about their customers.

The major thing I'm worried about in the future is Gabe dying/retiring and Steam getting a new CEO.

It will very probably be a shitfest that will almost inevotably start an enshitification of Steam, and that will massively suck.
