So big today looms Adolf Hitler in the minds of Europe’s statesmen that Der Führer’s habit of always picking Saturday as the time suddenly to throw his weight about has caused the Continent’s major stock exchanges to remain closed every Saturday—just in case the No.1 Nazi should upset prices.

Wait, people didn't know this? This is the original reason why stock exchanges are closed on the weekends. The European exchanges stopped doing Saturday trading because of Hitler's stock manipulation, and then the US followed suit in 1952 when none of the European exchanges reopened Saturday trading after the war ended.

I think the reason Americans might not know how closely Trump has been following Hitler's playbook for the last decade is because they just don't know anything about the playbook.

Yeah. He had the government pay him 50 million marks to use his picture on the postage stamps, made royalties from Mein Kampf which were state mandated to newlyweds and otherwise, had the government write off and exempt him from paying taxes, on top of getting industrialists to pay him about 100 million marks annually as direct tribute, basically.

Trump is so closely doing the same thing, especially with the direct cypto-donations to him by the rich lately.

I can’t find anything from a Google search that indicates Hitler’s market manipulation is a direct cause of Saturday closure. The most frequently cited reason is to give time to catch up on paperwork. Though that explanation is in tension with this post on Stack Exchange^[Stack Exchange] which also says that the market closed because trading was light during the Depression (so, which is it, there is too much work or too little?).

If this is supposed to be common knowledge, it’s hard to find details on it.
