Fox News and the entire GOP is so terrified of Mayor Zohran Mamdani's success that they are mocking him for asking New Yorkers to be careful with their thermostats during an extreme heat wave. This is the same advice Trump's Energy Department has suggested as well.

Not only do they look foolish, but they appear desperate in their efforts to smear and ridicule a popular political rival.

This morning on Fox and Friends, the three co-hosts were beside themselves that the mayor of New York City would ask residents to turn the thermostat higher to conserve energy so that there aren't any blackouts during this massive heat wave.

The best part is, now that Mandami is being criticized by the Fox outrage machine, all of the government websites that had similar recommendations are being changed.

Good thing Trump sat on a black towel when he appeared on this couch or she'd have a brown racing stripe on her dress.

Ah yes, asking your community as Mayor to be conscious of thermostat temperatures during a heatwave, to avoid brownouts or blackouts...

Communism. Not common sense.

Off topic, but as somebody who remembers when eastern seaboard grid died during the summer. I wouldn't want it to go down in this fucking heat.

And these "hosts" seem old enough that they should remember.

[-] WereHacker@lemmy.ml 2 points 4 hours ago

Someone might say they are on point, this is communism. Leading to the conclusion communism actually is common sense.

Automatic temperature controls engineer here:

This is exactly what you want to do in a heat wave. It’s called load shedding.

78°F in 100°F weather is going to feel perfectly cool. You’ll prevent your equipment from breaking down faster and see a notable difference in your electric bill.

Fox morons - this is definitely a Gandalf-I’m-trying-to-help-you moment.

Jimmy Carter asked the nation to turn down thermostats ~50 years ago, and these people are still freaking out about it.

[-] BenLeMan@lemmy.world 5 points 2 hours ago

Carter was promptly voted out of office and replaced with Ronald Reagan. We all know how that went.

It might have had something to do with Carter putting solar panels on the White House roof as well. Or the backroom deal that Reagan's people made with the Khomeini regime to keep the American hostages in captivity until after the election. Who knows.

[-] some_kind_of_guy@lemmy.world 7 points 6 hours ago

They must think a certain 2013 party anthem by DJ Snake and Lil Jon is actually about thermostats.

Is everything sensible or socially conscious Communism now? Taking public transit, being more physically active, telling my family that I love them... all communism?

[-] Catoblepas@lemmy.blahaj.zone 29 points 7 hours ago

Is everything sensible or socially conscious Communism now?

No, this is way off base.

Everything sensible or socially conscious has been Communism since the 1930s. Shoutout to Behind the Bastards, who coincidentally aired a couple of episodes about this very subject this week (Elizabeth Dilling episodes).

[-] Kazel@lemmy.dbzer0.com 12 points 6 hours ago

if you're murican then everything progressive is communism

[-] lol_idk@piefed.social 2 points 4 hours ago

Maybe, I thought it was woke, but that’s so 2025

[-] hOrni@lemmy.world 8 points 7 hours ago

Not quit. It's more like: "Anything someone they don't like says" is "something they think sounds bad". Mamdani said to conserve power, that's communism. AOC said she likes pineapple on pizza, she's basically Voldemort.

[-] First_Thunder@lemmy.zip 1 points 4 hours ago

I mean, pineapple on pizza is a war crime, I can’t disagree

Leave Your parents basement, eat something other than nuggets, develop a pallet, then come back to me.

I bet you don't even like anchovies, you monster.

problem being communism is a made up fantasy world so yeah anything can fit, up to the preferences of the larper

so why not seize the means of production and mandated thermostat temperature (which was common in commie buildings)

[-] prole@lemmy.blahaj.zone 1 points 47 minutes ago

Where did Mamdani mandate this?

Oh I see, you're lying.

[-] Lanske@lemmy.world 12 points 6 hours ago

Just use celcius like the rest of us and it doesn't seem that high!!!

[-] fyzzlefry@retrolemmy.com 6 points 6 hours ago

Has anyone told them who is in charge?

[-] adarza@piefed.ca 12 points 7 hours ago

in other words. they can't find any legitimate issues with the mayor of new york and how he's governing and presenting himself to his constituents and the public, so they came up with this line of bullshit about thermostat settings.

[-] lettruthout@lemmy.world 4 points 6 hours ago

The Grey Poupon issue of our time!

[-] spaghettiwestern@sh.itjust.works 19 points 8 hours ago

Fox and their audience would happily unplug someone's life support to charge their cell phones. God forbid they turn up their thermostats a degree or two to prevent widespread blackouts.

[-] ceenote@lemmy.world 6 points 6 hours ago

People on Twitter pulled up old tweets of Nikki Haley and Greg Abbott asking for the same things. It's a day that ends in "y", which is how you know Republicans are arguing in bad faith.

[-] toiletobserver@lemmy.world 25 points 8 hours ago

Kinda like telling a woman what they can and can't do with their body, right?

[-] SeeMarkFly@lemmy.ml 20 points 8 hours ago

Men telling women what they can do with their bodies is like a dog giving advice on car repairs cause it likes to ride in it sometimes.

[-] Whirling_Cloudburst@lemmy.world 3 points 5 hours ago

Its just another way of Fox saying that they consider their base to be nothing more than People of the Earth.

[-] mikenurre@lemmy.world 8 points 7 hours ago

Damn commies! I'ma go check a real state to see what they say. So DeSantis appointed every member of the FL commission, and they say it should be set to .. 78. More commies! What about TX? ERCOT is the worst run energy commission in history. Surely they have it right .. 78! IT'S EVEN IN THE STOCK IMAGES!

A spectre is haunting Europe — the spectre of reasonable room temperature. All the powers of old Europe have entered into a holy alliance to exorcise this spectre: Pope and Putin, Merz and Macron, French Radicals and German police-spies.

[-] Viking_Hippie@lemmy.dbzer0.com 1 points 1 hour ago

Putin, Merz and Macron, French Radicals and German police-spies.

One of these is NOT well-liked by any of the others, and another openly hates all the others 😄

Capitalism is when people die of preventable causes, such as dying from heat exposure or complications from it, because allowing them the resources to cool their houses (that they likely don't own and are privileged to have at all) is communism.

[-] BigMacHole 7 points 7 hours ago

COMMUNISM is Suggesting THERMOSTAT LEVELS!

-People telling Schools NOT to use Water or Electricity because FREEDOM!

[-] unmagical@lemmy.ml 4 points 7 hours ago

Fine, ignore it and pay more for your energy usage as you are free to do.
