The US is actually pretty progressive on the LGBTQ front compared to the rest of the world outside of Northern Europe, I'd even go as far as to say the coastal states are some of the best places for LGBTQ folks in terms of culture in the world.

Conservatism is dying slowly, and instead of reconsidering their positions, right-wingers are doubling down and turning to fascism to keep their grip on power. We must stay vigilant and counter their bullshit and violence whenever possible. If we want a better world, we have to fight for it.

Southern Europe generally isn't particularly progressive. A number of southern European countries are quite conservative in the sense of "things are slow to change".
