I know this is a dumb question and something I should just be able to Google, so I apologize. But I'm getting conflicting information while Googling.

Before you even consider the link speed, can the drives in your NAS even read at 10Gbps? An external HDD over USB sure as hell can't, no matter what USB version you have. You'd need a RAID array or SSD storage for those kinds of speeds.
