The Israeli government was not shown the memorandum of understanding drafted to end the war with Iran, an Israeli government official told NBC News on Wednesday, the latest sign of growing tension between the United States and Israel.

Shortly after Donald Trump said he had given a copy of the MOU to Israel, the same source said Israel still hadn’t seen the draft. The source wouldn’t comment on whether or not Israeli diplomats had asked for the text and were denied it.

The Israeli government’s absence in the negotiations leading up to the MOU has become a perilous hindrance for Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, who faces career-defining elections before the end of October. The deal framework was provided to NBC News by a senior U.S. official later on Wednesday.

growing tension between the United States and Israel.

Great. Let Israel handle their shitshow alone.

[-] ryper@lemmy.ca 37 points 3 weeks ago

However much shit Trump may talk about Netanyahu, I bet US weapons shipments to Israel go uninterrupted.

The MK-82s must flow.

Imagine believing anything any of these fuckers are saying. They could tell me the sin rises in the east and sets in the west and I wouldn't believe it.

"The sky is blue"

/me walks out to check if it's indeed so.

Literally a random coin flip is more likely to yield a result that matches reality than whatever comes out of these people's mouths.

“You don’t have to knock down an apartment house every time you’re looking for somebody"

Schools however are fair game apparently.

[-] nova_ad_vitum@lemmy.ca 10 points 3 weeks ago

I mean fair, but Israel does it deliberately as a matter of policy, and this criticism would never be leveled by Schumer or Biden or most democrats despite all of them knowing it's true.

The problem with manipulating a narcissist into supporting your war is that when it blows up the narcissist only really cared about himself and isn't going to adhere to pre-existing norms like "never criticising Israeli military tactics".

Truly he is just on the side of whoever most recently played his ego most effectively 😅

Just give him a mental blowjob and he'll give you anything you want I guess. Until someone else plays his ego, then he'll give take it back and give it to them lol

israel created the epstein files, they will certainly hold US and every politician, billionaire over it.

[-] nosuchanon@lemmy.world 6 points 3 weeks ago

Don’t threaten me with a good time. Fucking do it already. Take them all out.

[-] MrMakabar@slrpnk.net 5 points 3 weeks ago

Something like the Epstein files only work, when you have a somewhat working democracy. Trump is already above the law and he can pardon everybody else. Also the trouble Trump can cause an American is way worse then the Epstein files.

[-] freedom@lemy.lol 1 points 3 weeks ago

I would sooner give Trump and co immunity after full honesty about all the heinous shit than watch him squirm and screw the world over again.

[-] icelimit@lemmy.ml 1 points 3 weeks ago

They said definitely use it

[-] northernlights@lemmy.today 14 points 3 weeks ago

What a shitshow. Is there any decade where a republican president didn't drag the US into yet another senseless war?

So: Iran keep insiting Lebanon is part of the deal. Israel keeps insisting it is not.

The question really is will a deal be signed, or will Israel refuse to withdraw from Lebanon and yet again Trumps promises are empty nonsense. The US lost this war, but can it reign in Israel to help it exit the war?

[-] Asidonhopo@lemmy.world 5 points 3 weeks ago

Netanyahu goes back on trial for corruption and probably to prison if the war ends so, uhhh

[-] MrMakabar@slrpnk.net 1 points 3 weeks ago

The elections in Israel are next October. If Netanyahu looses, he is going on trial for corruption. Also he needs the support of the far right to govern and they hate this deal. So he rather keeps the war going to then let the next prime minister deal with this.

[-] Treczoks@lemmy.world 12 points 3 weeks ago

Don't worry, Israel is going to bombard that treaty left and right.

[-] Photonic@lemmy.world 5 points 3 weeks ago* (last edited 3 weeks ago)

Absolutely, the agreement they are planning to draft is supposed to include halting all military activities in Lebanon. Israel is never going to agree with that. On top of that Iran gets to keep their enriched uranium (although less highly enriched), which is what this whole war was about in the first place, especially for Israel.

[-] 3abas@lemmy.world 4 points 3 weeks ago

which is what this whole war was about in the first place, especially for Israel.

It absolutely wasn't. Satanyahu has been scaremongering about Iran being two weeks away from a nuke for over 40 years, this isn't any Israel wants to destroy Iran.

With Syria, Iraq, and Libya dismantled, Iran is the only capable resistance to Israel's expansionist goals. With collaborator authoritarian leaders in Jordan and Egypt, the only thing stopping Israel from taking them over is Iran. Without Iran and their support for Hezballah, Israel would have taken Lebanon over long ago.

You're framing it as a defensive position, where Israel is afraid for its survival, whereas the truth is they are an expansionist ethno-religous supremacist state openly plotting to ethnically cleans the region to expand their living space.

How odd. To date, Trump had exhibited such forthrightness and transparency.

[-] MiddleAgesModem@lemmy.world 10 points 3 weeks ago

Even Israel must learn, Trump only cares about himself. Skyrocketing gas prices are bad for him in November.

[-] phx@lemmy.world 1 points 3 weeks ago

Yeah but up until now it really feels like their relationship was more about them having some sort of dirt on Trump that kept him on a short leash. Wonder why he doesn't care any that anymore

Trump's facing elections three days after the end of October. They are probably going to do a lot to determine what the latter half of his term looks like.

[-] knife@lemmy.world 4 points 3 weeks ago

this is all for show and I bet america is back to attacking iran with their friend israel after the midterms.

[-] kreskin@lemmy.world 4 points 3 weeks ago

Genociders should be cut out of every deal everywhere. They shouldnt be allowed to order girlscout cookies online or to apply to visas to visit other countries. They shouldnt even be allowed to participate in climate initiatives. Its the only way to get them to be reasonable about basic human rights, and basic human rights needs to be the fundamental basis for all negotiations with them.
