A Pentagon spokesman declined to comment on Mr. Hegseth’s decision.

Mr. Trump has told reporters that troop cuts in Europe would go even deeper. He has insisted that “we’re cutting a lot further than 5,000” service members from Germany and threatened to also pull troops out of Italy and Spain, countries that the president says have not supported the administration’s goals in the U.S. war against Iran.

Idiots.

No it isn't. American troops aren't reliable for protection against authoritarianism now anyway

I'd honestly love to sit on the sidelines with a bucket of popcorn and watch Poland absolutely fuck Putin.

I wouldn't obviously, because NATO article V would provoke us all to action and we wouldn't be on the sidelines, we'll be defending our allies whatever the fuck America is doing

What are European police going to do once the American soldiers are gone?

The pettiness of it all is so stupid. Moving American troops out of Europe right now, when Putin can't do anything about it, is a gesture without consequence. Or, rather, the consequence is just that Europeans have ample warning that America cannot be trusted.

I remember the days when everybody was convinced that Trump was playing 5D chess. I think by now we know he can't even play 1D checkers.

The funniest thing about this is both conservatives actually think American troops do anything in Europe and withdrawing them as a punishment and threat just made everyone realize they didn't need to be there in the first place.

Makes no difference, unless you are considering it a positive development, then you might have a point possibly. The US honoring article 4 has become a naive thought beyond comprehension.
