I know it's 5 o'clock somewhere. What about Friday? That would really help today. ๐Ÿ˜„

I think it's Saturday or Sunday everywhere now.

I'm writing this from the most easterly country west of the dateline. Time zone GMT+12. It will be Friday here before anywhere else. It's still Wednesday.

How's life in New Zealand?

[-] spittingimage@lemmy.world 5 points 1 week ago

Getting colder by the day. I need my car heater for the drive to work.

May I ask, why do you live there? Family? Highly paid job? Have you considered moving to a more warmer part of the Earth?

[-] spittingimage@lemmy.world 2 points 1 week ago

Well, I was born here and I like it here. I'm using the heater because it's late autumn and I leave the house at 6 AM. It'll never get below freezing.

[-] a_gee_dizzle@lemmy.ca 2 points 1 week ago

How cold does it get there?

[-] luthis@lemmy.nz 1 points 1 week ago

Depends on the island but most places will get over 25C in the summer on some days. In the winter the southern and high altitude parts get to 0 or maybe a few degrees into the negative. The north usually doesn't go below 9C.

When I was a boy and walking to the bus stop in winter to get to school, I used to stomp on frozen puddles to break the skin of ice. They don't freeze any more.

[-] a_gee_dizzle@lemmy.ca 2 points 1 week ago

Where I'm from we have a major river flowing through the heart of our city and we turn it into a frozen ice rink every Winter. Works great until the windchill hits the minus forties or fifties, then it's time to stay inside with a nice cup of hot tea

It's not great until I read news from anywhere that isn't Norway / Sweden / Finland and then I remember that it's actually pretty great here. It's very rare to have catastrophic events of any kind. The weather never gets too bad, and when it's good it's very good. There's inconveniences but they are usually the result of upsides so it's hard to complain.

When you work shifts (7/7 24h) weekends are whenever you are off duty and Friday can be on Tuesday.

So yeah, it is Friday somewhere for someone.

[-] Fondots@lemmy.world 3 points 1 week ago

Its Tuesday night (or technically very early Wednesday morning) as I write this

For me it's basically sunday, I was off yesterday and today.

So for the guy who works my opposite shift, its currently Friday. He'll be getting off in a couple hours and then he'll enjoy his weekend when he wakes up on Wednesday and Thursday.

[-] Skunk@jlai.lu 1 points 1 week ago

Yup, and actual Friday will be Monday for me :(

[-] nutomic@lemmy.ml 5 points 1 week ago

In your imagination it can always be Friday! Don't be one of those people who live in "real life" because it's quite boring.

[-] artwork@lemmy.world 5 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago)

Apologies, on Earth? If so, impossible. As we know, the whole planet rotates 360deg in ~24 hours. Othrewise, please clarify the planet.

Anywhere in the universe, in any theoretical space.

[-] dom@lemmy.ca 7 points 1 week ago
[-] catdog@lemmy.ml 1 points 1 week ago

It will be for the next three weeks

[-] tacosanonymous@mander.xyz 5 points 1 week ago

Only in spirit, amigo.

[-] MidsizedSedan@lemmy.world 4 points 1 week ago

Neighbour has a dog called Friday. Get to see Friday 3-5 days a week. (Doesn't make work any easier, but I always have a smile on my face when I see him)

[-] Zugyuk@lemmy.world 4 points 1 week ago

It is somewhen ๐Ÿคฃ

~~The furthest time can be is +-12h from your local time (because of politics, weird timezones and summer/winter time I am sure it could maybe be up to +-14, but if all time was sensible it would be 12).~~

~~So if it is 8:00 at your place, one side of the international dateline will have 20:00 yesterday and the other side is 20:00 today.~~

~~If your current time is more than 12h away from Friday, then I am sorry to say it is not Friday anywhere on earth.~~

Edit: I wrote this and went to sleep. Woke up thinking, wait this not right!

Its +-12 for me because I live close to GMT+0. For people at the date line it would either be -0/+24 or -24/+0. So its actually -12-(your time zone)/+12-(your time zone).

But regardless of where you live and what time it is, no place on earth can ever be +-24h from your local time, so when this post was new, it was still impossible.

[-] ExperiencedWinter@lemmy.world 1 points 1 week ago

it is not Friday anywhere on earth

You're thinking too small, it could be Friday on the Moon or on Mars! At least until they finish deciding on an official time zone...

[-] bountygiver@lemmy.ml 3 points 1 week ago

Friday is something invented by humans, so it's not Friday anywhere else.

[-] ExperiencedWinter@lemmy.world 1 points 1 week ago

Humans have rover moving around on Mars, from the rovers perspective wouldn't Friday be our of sync with earth days?

[-] bountygiver@lemmy.ml 3 points 1 week ago

they likely just use epoch time and any time sensitive data will be converted to the local timezone in mission control

[-] bandwidthcrisis@lemmy.world 3 points 1 week ago

It's still Friday in parts of last week.

[-] KazuchijouNo@lemy.lol 2 points 1 week ago

Today? No, I don't think so :'(

Maybe Wednesday, or Monday, but not Friday, not yet

[-] HumbleExaggeration@feddit.org 2 points 1 week ago

We have a national holiday on Friday, so technically tomorrow will be Friday for me, but sadly not today.

[-] Korhaka@sopuli.xyz 2 points 1 week ago

Sure, days of the week are just a thing we made up. If you want to can call it Friday. Its all made up, other than some humans, nothing else cares.

[-] orenj@leminal.space 1 points 1 week ago
