I mean it really is the height of audacity to interrupt a game like that when nothing even happened to the Epstein loving fucker

I usually don't get bent out of shape when the flow of treats is disrupted, but for some reason this actually did get under my skin; I think it's the brazen delusional self-regard of it all and the way the media just plays along as if we're all just one big happy community genuinely concerned for a fuckin pedophile war criminal. It gave me the same feeling when a noxious and intrusive ad decides to insult your intelligence when you were doing something important like decompressing after work

"He didn't even die" is killing me

The shooter didn't even make it into the same room as the USA president... I really don't see a problem with these tweets.

[-] Wheaties@hexbear.net 3 points 5 days ago

there isn't a problem, its just funny to contrast the big oh so serious official responses to the uncaring attitude of random civilians

the control media companies have over live sports events is bananas.

im not a sports guy, so i was able to "cut the cord" before that was even a phrase. but if you look at the demos of people who still pay for cable subscriptions, it's guys who watch the shit out of live sports events.

a few huge streaming companies have managed to negotiate some rights and i think amazon has been aggressive, but it's still a cluster fuck of local market blackouts, pay per view, and "season passes" or going to somebody's house or a bar that "has the game".

and many still get all the TV ad breaks and bullshit "sponsored by crypto & pampers" pseudo commentary, the constant ads overlayed during the game. it's an insane user experience to witness, objectively.

and then some non event interrupts some shit they are gambling on (because remember, online sports gambling is backstopping all this) to say nothing happened.

and remember, because their access to the live feed is so tightly controlled, they often lack the ability or even potential to be watching on some direct/uninterrupted feed not subject to the parent company's desire to gin up controversy for some national non-event.

watching that old guy in a clip keep eating during the hoopla captured the real vibe so much more than all the c-list celebs and influencers trying to have their "i almost got shot in my tuxedo" moment taking crouched down selfie clips and hoping to sell the footage to some outlet and jumpstart their career as a brave culture war correspondent.

It's my civic duty to hook all my fam up with pirated IPTV streams of sporting events

i remember back a bunch of years ago, i was broke and working with a bunch of broke people in some shit pay rural job. the only thing i splurged on was decent internet in my fucked up illegal "apartment"/housing situation. they were all super bummed because there was no way to watch this different market/live sporting event besides driving 45 minutes to some overpriced bar where we weren't even sure they would even put it on, because there was a different game on.

so i found some shitty https-based pirate stream and had people over to watch in my shitty cramped space, because i could output it to this old 35" TV, and they brought over a bunch of food and got me stuffed/wasted: all the cheap beer i could drink. you'd have thought i parted the red sea.

I have to rant tangentially about this for a moment cause I'm not even a sports fan but recently had the displeasure of being in the room when someone put on a basketball game. It was like the NBA hired the same team that does all slot machines to do the production for their games. All the artificially produced audio was just really off-putting, it felt so plastic and fake and less about the sport or the players than just manipulating the lowest-common-denomenator of viewers into paying money for the experience (edit: and probably participating in sports betting now that I think of it. The capitalist world is turning itself into a fucking casino astronaut-1 )

The chants, which were usually the same one or two on repeat, didn't have anything to do with what the players were doing, didn't have anything to do with the region's audience (as in, a Lakers audience would probably have different chants than a Pistons audience), and the audience very clearly was not actually behaving in line with any of the audio cues. Not even the shoe squeaks were real, which ironically enough is probably cause you wouldn't be able to hear the real ones over all the produced bullshit. Not that I really give any fucks to hear them but NBA very clearly considers them part of the experience they are aiming to conjure.

I don't know why anyone still watches it. I could have been watching someone play NBA 2K and had the same experience.

Sports fucking suck to watch. I used to love watching sports. I often just mute the thing and follow a live thread.

[-] TheoryofChange@hexbear.net 32 points 6 days ago

I actually totally agree with this take. Nothing happened which viewers should be immediately informed of lol.

[-] Hestia@hexbear.net 32 points 6 days ago

I hope Trump sees this, think about how sad it would make him.

[-] peeonyou@hexbear.net 21 points 6 days ago* (last edited 6 days ago)

I'll never understand the sports watching thing but i can also understand not wanting whatever you're watching to be interrupted with unrelated bullshit

[-] spectre@hexbear.net 18 points 6 days ago

They were reading an article in the new chapo ep where the reporter (and a few others) went from the dinner to a bar down the street where "they used to have at least one TV on CNN all the time, but it's all hockey and nobody was even aware of what's going on just up the street"

They asked the staff to turn one of the TVs to the news, which they did till the manager had it changed back to the game cause they have a policy against having politics/news on the TV lol

I do find it a bit surprising for that to be the case in literal DC, but also not surprised that nobody gives a fuck because you [mainstream journalists] have spent over a decade being totally useless

The fact they showed it is a strange way to admit that the secret service hasn't been getting enough of a run for their money

[-] 9to5@hexbear.net 53 points 1 week ago

To be fair I would also be annoyed if someone stopped my Hasan Stream to tell me Merz got shot at (and worst of didnt die)

[-] axont@hexbear.net 12 points 6 days ago

Why would anyone shoot at Merzbow

It's respectable noise music

[-] robot_dog_with_gun@hexbear.net 42 points 1 week ago

hasan would be the one to stop his own stream for that kind of breaking who cares

[-] 9to5@hexbear.net 27 points 1 week ago

You are right that Hasan was a bad example. With that said I can understand sportsball fans getting annoyed when their game gets interrupted for stuff that doesnt matter to them (again Trump wasnt even killed or harmed)

[-] THEPH0NECOMPANY@hexbear.net 16 points 6 days ago

Hasan is a good example except it's him interrupting himself to yell at one obvious troll in chat about how that person is trying to detail him, while derailing himself for like 5 mins. Only to repeat this process every 10 to 15 mins

[-] robot_dog_with_gun@hexbear.net 38 points 1 week ago

unlimited reeducation on all sports fans.

[-] MeetMeAtTheMovies@hexbear.net 31 points 1 week ago

Gotta bring it to one extreme or the other. Either the game only gets interrupted when It Happens. Or the game has regularly scheduled breaks for a couple minutes of reeducation. Bite sized micro learning but proletarian.
