I keep my devices for a long time. I’m currently using an iPhone 8 and have a 5 that sees daily use as well.

Now that Apple has switched to putting the newest chip in the 15 Pro and last years chip in the 15 would it be worth it to get the Pro when looking at using a phone for 6-8 years?

If you are someone who plans to keep their phones for a while, consider buying the top of the line. I would think it would be relevant longer.

Don’t be silly. The difference in performance between the pro and no pro versions is negligible. They both will receive the same level of support.

Go for the Pro. If you only upgrade every 6+ years why not get the best available option? The Promotion display is worth it. And even though you may not use some/most of the features now, in 2-3 years you may have a use for them.

I would say so, yes in my case. The 12 Pros has 6GB of RAM. For me on my 12PM, that keeps it feeling smooth and I deal with minimal app reloads, significantly less than any iPhone with 4 or less GB of RAM. Feels like it’s futureproofed in a sense since this year is the first time the iPhone has more RAM than that (15 Pros have 8GB)

The way I see it: you’re getting the next generations base model in this years pro model, so you’ll always be at least one step ahead if you buy pro.

And the same with the regular? No? What is your point hombre😊

get the 15 pro, base 15 is for tech illiterate people who should not be owning an iphone. 60hz is for people with eye problems. only elites buy the pro. 120hz n always on display is life changing and u get one more year of support over the poor people with base 15

I got myself a 15 Pro Max after hanging on to an XS since October 2018. I plan on keeping hold of this one for around the same amount of time.

You should get the iPhone 15 Pro.

I have an iPhone X. Debating keeping it because I dislike a lot of the new camera processing, but the 15 Pro would be my choice. The upgrades are meaningful, tbh. I don’t really care about 120Hz, but ProRAW photos and ProRes are real upgrades.

Use your old phones and old apps until they can no longer be used then upgrade

For a long term user like yourself, I would definitely get the iPhone 15 Pro/Pro Max. The A17 Pro and 8gb RAM might be the next iPhone 6s that got 7 years of iOS updates.

If I was planning to purchase an iPhone and holding onto it for as long as possible, I would get the best I can possibly afford and rock with it.

I mean the iPhone Xs was basically a "Pro" phone back then. I used it for a long time, it did the job pretty good.

No. They maybe more focused on chips. But they are likely to drop support for the entire series in one go.

But hey, I could be wrong.

If they end support for each model at a time, and the pro phone has a better chip, won’t it run the last operating system that model gets, better than the non pro, regardless of if they end support by chip or by model?

Good point. The extra Ram will be nice too.

Couldn't tell you about a pro model, I'm still rocking an iPhone 7. Just got a new terracotta cover for it, looks nice.

Exactly the same situation, and the reason I upgraded from XS to 15 Pro. I want my iPhone is stay relevant for as long as possible.

I am still using iPhone 12 Pro, and want to use it till 2025 before upgrading to next Pro (Max is too big a size for daily use when I already have an iPad). The phone is holding pretty good, no lags, camera still delivers fantastic photos and videos, screen is amazing. I might get the battery changed.

I came from an iPhone XS Max and was in a similar predicament. I was deciding between 14 pro max and 15 pro max. Ultimately, I decided to go with the 15 pro max. I don’t plan on upgrading until the phone stops receiving software updates or starts slowing down. I figured since I was already spending at least 900 I might as well go for the newest phone. The usbc was also pretty convincing because all my other devices (iPad,Mac) use it. I know I’ll get at least 5 years outta my 15pm without any issues, so for me the purchase was worth it.
