People who commute by bike or electric trains:

Also homeowners looking at people.

And anyone with a badass tree fort

I was pleasantly surprised the EV and Hybrid deduction was still available in the USA for 2025.

[-] real_squids@sopuli.xyz 10 points 2 months ago

Wait until you find out what happens to totalled EVs (they get sold for barely anything and shipped to eastern europe to be repaired). The ultimate Reduce Reuse Recycle scheme

[-] DudeImMacGyver@kbin.earth 8 points 2 months ago

Plug in hybrids are shit BTW, just go for regular hybrid or full electric.

[-] gartheom@lemmy.world 7 points 2 months ago

It depends on the plug-in hybrid. Mine has a big enough battery that it runs as an EV until you run out of battery (usually after 40 miles). Works great for day to day city driving where I regularly get 1000 miles before having to refuel. And if you are doing long road drives, acts as a standard gas powered vehicle.

[-] Gamechanger@slrpnk.net 4 points 2 months ago

You are right, plug in hybrids are shit but normal hybrids are shittier. No car >>>>>> EV>plug in> ICE (this includes hybrids)

[-] Railcar8095@lemmy.world 4 points 2 months ago

Again, anything is better than ICE

[-] Gamechanger@slrpnk.net -4 points 2 months ago

Plugless hybrids are ICEs that need more resources to be produced. They are a marketing lie.

[-] FlexibleToast@lemmy.world 2 points 2 months ago

They're more fuel efficient, the electric motors reduce wear and tear on the ICE and mean you can have a smaller ICE. They're a significant step forward from pure ICE.

[-] smh@slrpnk.net 1 points 2 months ago

Eh. My Prius is almost 20 years old. I'd rather keep driving it than buy a new vehicle, even if the new vehicle took less resources to produce. I'm well past the break-even point.

[-] surewhynotlem@lemmy.world 1 points 2 months ago

Why? Isn't it nice to be able to go to the store and back with no gas?

[-] DudeImMacGyver@kbin.earth 1 points 2 months ago

The manufacturers lied their asses off about how efficient they actually are from what I've read.

[-] offspec@lemmy.world 2 points 2 months ago

As a daily driver of a 19 volt I can confidently say I only buy gas if I go out of town. My standard driving never goes above the ~40 miles of full electric range.

[-] DudeImMacGyver@kbin.earth 2 points 2 months ago
[-] offspec@lemmy.world 2 points 2 months ago

Yeah literally never using gas is great

[-] DudeImMacGyver@kbin.earth 1 points 2 months ago

This is why I love bicycles. Be careful if you never ever use the fuel though, you might need to add a stabilizer or something if it goes unused for too long.

[-] offspec@lemmy.world 2 points 2 months ago

Yeah the car complains after a few months and runs the engine after a year, generally I go visit family once every other month or so and maybe use a gallon

[-] Bubbaonthebeach@lemmy.ca 7 points 2 months ago

I have an EV. Yay my fuel price isn't changing. But only for my car. Everything else is shipped using mostly gas. So that all goes up. Buy local. Thankfully the last year has increased local production of many necessary items. Continue avoiding buying anything American since Trump continues to make life more difficult for everyone in the world.

[-] modus@lemmy.world 1 points 2 months ago

I only buy Ukrainian-made electronics, clothing and alcohol.

[-] dwalin@lemmy.world 2 points 2 months ago

Wait untill you go shopping :)

[-] thingAmaBob@lemmy.world 1 points 2 months ago

Naw, that shit will affect every crevice of the economy. I’ve already had to increase certain areas of my budget three times within the last several months because inflation has gone up an insane amount in a short time. The only saving grace is that where I live winter is almost over.

[-] Jackhammer_Joe@lemmy.world 1 points 2 months ago

Off-topic: is the dude in the picture the same actor like 'The Baron' from 'What we do in the Shadows'?

[-] Damage@feddit.it -2 points 2 months ago

Most people who drive ICE cars can't afford fancy hybrids or EVs.

Real classy looking down on them, but I guess the image fits.

[-] ZebulonP@lemmy.world 15 points 2 months ago

I live in an apartment building. Kinda hard to have an EV with no way to charge it. Would definitely like one though.

[-] real_squids@sopuli.xyz 4 points 2 months ago

The ones I see around my complex just have like a communal charger from a local business lol, it's doable if people can come together and agree on something like that

[-] surewhynotlem@lemmy.world 8 points 2 months ago

People? Come together?? In community???

Not in MY capitalism

[-] real_squids@sopuli.xyz 1 points 2 months ago

Oh I'm sure they're paying something for that, but it's only a handful of cars so not that hard of a task

[-] offspec@lemmy.world 1 points 2 months ago

When I lived in an apartment I used the standard 120V outlet to charge overnight, at some point I did add ~$40 to my rent to get a garage space and used that 120V outlet instead.

[-] chunkystyles@sopuli.xyz 4 points 2 months ago

Last year I sold a used ICE car and bought a used Chevy Bolt for less money. It's been great.

[-] perishthethought@piefed.social 4 points 2 months ago

This is just one anecdote but when I was car shopping in 2022 in the US, my (non plugin) hybrid CRV cost $1000 more than the ICE version. Not really a lot more.
