https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Matthew+24%3A24&version=KJV

For there shall arise false Christs, and false prophets, and shall shew great signs and wonders; insomuch that, if it were possible, they shall deceive the very elect.

It’s maddening, because it’s very fucking obvious, and these imbecilic rubes reliably fall for it, every goddamn time, hook, line, and sinker.

A lot of clergy know they're lying. The money and perks are good.

I’m putting those types into the “malicious actors/false prophets” category. My point is that an absolute shitload of “devout Christians” fall for their bullshit too, in addition to orangeboi.

And, of course, the response is invariably “oh, goodness, we didn’t know, we were fooled!” But why the fuck not? There are entire fucking sections in your imaginary friend book that talk about literally this exact fucking thing.

It would behoove the Christian community to recall Jesus (real or not) was born in Palestine, and ethnically Jewish who said he came to fulfill the law, not abolish it (and also that he's not the reincarnated Moshe, nor of the correct lineage, biblically) to be the Jewish Messiah, whether he's the Christian Messiah or not; and then to study the actual reasoning behind Jewish law (but that's like saying I should be able to thrive on CO² according to evolution, it may happen if the species survives long enough). Not the crazy exclusionary Rabbi who think antizionists are part of the "bad" Erev Rav, either; and that's as likely as evangelicals studying Jewish law. 🤷‍♀️

The money and perks are good.

for which clergy? most of the ones i know have second jobs driving uber

[-] Maeve@kbin.earth 2 points 1 month ago

Obviously ymmv. I think they're paid from "tithes and offerings," usually.

you're mostly referring to the osteens and the copelands. the ones worth millions/billions. a tiny, tiny minority of clergy. the vast majority of pastors/priests are making ~~30k-60kUSD/yr. $15-30/hr. I'm willing to bet you make more. Specific comparison: This is in the California Bay Area and these are poverty wages, I was an accountant with a small nonprofit part of my practice. Those numbers are not unusual. Tithes and offerings go to the church (tithes and offerings are 100% NP source income to the church, largest expenses are overhead and payroll and neither of those offset NP Income) and the pastors are paid by a board of directors/elders (whatever the church decides to call it) running the church. Reputable churches publish audited financial statements every year and one of the biggest line items is how much they are paying the pastor.

Most churches don't make money. Source: 20 years of practice.

You saying that people who believe in a fictional book character can be gullible?

[-] altphoto@lemmy.today 31 points 1 month ago

Oh lord give us money and people to abuse.

[-] thlibos 28 points 1 month ago

The Greasy Orange Antichrist actually thinks they are praying to him. And they might as well be. They are all complete and total fucking frauds.

[-] Tigeroovy@lemmy.ca 12 points 1 month ago

They’re craven lunatics so they absolutely fucking are just praying to him.

[-] ClownStatue@piefed.social 22 points 1 month ago

It’s nice to think that, if there’s a Hell, all those fuckers are headed there.

[-] Olhonestjim@lemmy.world 8 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago)

Sadly, there ain't. Justice is entirely our responsibility.

[-] lastweakness@lemmy.world 3 points 1 month ago

One that we're slacking on as a world, apparently.

[-] GuyFawkesV@lemmy.world 20 points 1 month ago

Maybe they’re praying for God to take him, like right now.

[-] D_C@sh.itjust.works 10 points 1 month ago

I know I am.

[-] SabinStargem@lemmy.today 16 points 1 month ago

I am praying for Satan to collect his due. Preferably by tomorrow morning, in the guise of cheese burgers.

[-] DarkFuture@lemmy.world 13 points 1 month ago

Apparently religious leaders love fucking and killing children.

[-] MyTurtleSwimsUpsideDown@fedia.io 13 points 1 month ago

To pray for Trump to suddenly grow a conscience, right???

[-] Tigeroovy@lemmy.ca 13 points 1 month ago

Imagine if you could just set a couple hungry grizzlies loose in there and barricade all the exits, a lot of problems would be gone overnight.

[-] Diplomjodler3@lemmy.world 9 points 1 month ago

Or, you know, drop a few bombs. Seems to be all the rage these days.

[-] RememberTheApollo_@lemmy.world 11 points 1 month ago

Absolutely disgusting.

[-] SaveTheTuaHawk@lemmy.ca 10 points 1 month ago

[-] funkless_eck@sh.itjust.works 5 points 1 month ago

[-] HeyThisIsntTheYMCA@lemmy.world 1 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago)

so in american sign language, i learned that the sign for "up yours buddy" and the sign for "new jersey" are the same, which just kind of feels right.

the surprising thing was to see our boy Tom here telling the J-dog "~~New Jersey~~Up Yours Buddy" at the last supper

[-] Treczoks@lemmy.world 8 points 1 month ago

"Lord, please send some brain for this man, he needs it urgently."

[-] SaveTheTuaHawk@lemmy.ca 2 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago)

"Show us a sign you are hearing us"

You know that 6 seconds later he laid an epic fudgee in his pants.

[-] Hazmatastic@lemmy.world 7 points 1 month ago

By their own definitions every single one of those people is going straight downstairs

[-] phutatorius@lemmy.zip 5 points 1 month ago

I hope they pray for justice to be done, and are close enough to Trump to be hit by the lightning bolt.

[-] Sam_Bass@lemmy.world 4 points 1 month ago

Sure pray for the devil. He gets a huge kick out of it

[-] Lucidlethargy@sh.itjust.works 2 points 1 month ago
[-] SalmiakDragon@feddit.nu 2 points 1 month ago

Oh, for a second I thought this was a moment of proteat from the religious community, like "we'll pray for you, you lost soul". Silly of me.

[-] middlemanSI@lemmy.world 2 points 1 month ago

My god is better than your god

[-] assa123@lemmy.world 1 points 1 month ago

Isn't there an AI photo or video just like this from a year ago? I must be having a stroke, what is real anymore?

[-] FlashMobOfOne@lemmy.world 1 points 1 month ago
