When the change of ownership happened about an year ago I stopped my automatic updates from Fdroid. Now that some time has passed I want to ask, have the new guy done anything suspicious? Have you tried the later vestions?

From my casual watching, it only got worse, we recently had this drama.

I have it frozen at the version installed before this happened, and haven't look into a replacement yet, but maybe syncthing tray could be a replacement?

Or just running syncthing in termux

Or just running syncthing in termux

But can it be configured to not run if the phone's not charging?

Same, I have my version frozen as well. I've heard people have had some success running it in termux, however the app allows you to only sync when charging and on wifi which is why I've stuck with syncthing-fork.

Wait, so Syncthing via Termux only runs when charging?

Syncthing is a continuous file synchronization program. It synchronizes files between two or more computers in real time, safely protected from prying eyes.

Your data is your data alone and you deserve to choose where it is stored, whether it is shared with some third party, and how it's transmitted over the internet.
