I used to check the front page at least once every day, and occassionally check specific subreddits. Now I don't look at reddit unless theres some drama, like mods getting purged, then I'd go there and enjoy the drama. Occasionally there will be questions that only reddit has the answer to so I have to reluctantly use it. I got my uBlock Origin ready to kill all the ads. That shitty website will not get a cent out of me.

What about you? Do you still use reddit?

I still hang out mostly on Reddit. As much as the site’s gone downhill, I’m mostly active on the fandom-specific subs, which don’t have nearly as much of a presence on Lemmy. The general meme communities have been flourishing, but the fandom communities are basically ghost towns, and even those that see a bare minimum of activity are far from enough to pop up in my feed. Right now, /r/yugioh has ten times as many online users as /c/yugioh has subscribers period - and that’s one of the more active niche communities I follow! I’ll still be keeping an eye on Lemmy and post to both sites when I can, but we’ve got a lot more growing to do before I’m ready to finally ditch Reddit.

Also, Reddit has the hentai. The specific fandom subs at least have small barely-active communities here but their NSFW counterparts are totally nonexistent.

I don't really go to reddit since the apps got killed and I refuse to use the pile of garbage the official app is. Aside from a few niche subs there really isn't much to see there anymore, especially in summer. It's all edgy kids and bots now for the most part.Whatever sense of community there once was is long gone.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 year ago

Only in read only mode.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 year ago

It still comes up on google when you need to figure out an obscure issue and is usually the best answer, although I'm trying to limit it. Other than that, I deleted my account and am long gone.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 year ago

I lurk with an ad blocker. I do still have an account and am logged in so I can vote and save some posts.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 year ago (2 children)

yes, but only for specific content. my city and state have a very active subs that just hasn't really taken off on Lemmy yet. there's a lot of news from both that i can't get anywhere else. similarly i'm pretty active on r/dmacademy and there just isn't a community on lemmy that i've found that is similar yet. i think when those communities take off here i'll finally cut the cord on reddit.

No. I bounce between here and my main Lemmy instance. I prefer KBin in general, but there are already usable apps for Lemmy.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 year ago

I haven't posted in years, but there is still so much content there. Now though without my favourite app (Joey) I probably will go there less. Even less when they disable old.reddit.com.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 year ago

Once or twice a week I check my local subreddit and a couple of best of subs.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 year ago

Hell no! FU Spez

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 year ago

Still active on some niche communities that they don't want to leave Reddit and only using it on desktop.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 year ago

For porn yeah but not for anything else. Been away for as long as my lemmy account is old

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 year ago

Only for superstonk and wallstreetbets. I find the fediverse including Mastodon enough for me. I was never a Twitter guy, but I created a Mastodon account on Infosec and it's amazing the knowledge and people you can find out there.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 year ago

Someone linked mlmym.org

which mimics oldreddit... I feel at home now.

I go back to check hometown sub once or twice a day. if I go to the front page, I only make it through about half before I realize what I'm doing and switch. Quite honestly, it feels poisonous. Whatever algorithm they have my brain has decided it can live without.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 year ago

Only if my search engine gives a result for technical advice I need.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 year ago

I’ve noticed I haven’t really been enjoying my time on Reddit anymore. Since the shutdown of Apollo, I’ve found simple tasks like search and going to my favorite subreddits a chore.

Discussions inside of the posts also have deteriorated and I feel like I’m seeing way more AI generated content on askreddit and aita etc. Bots have also run rampant on subreddits like interestingasfuck.

Lemmy is reminding me of Reddit from 2010 . Lots of memes, smaller communities with great discussions. Also love it being connected to Mastodon.

What I’ve realized is I’ve just ended up spending more time outside of any of these apps, which might have ended up being a blessing.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 year ago

Yes. I like reddit’s posts more, but the Memmy app is more stable on my phone than the official reddit app, plus no ads. So I’m currently using both, but as Lemmy’s community grows and matures I’ll probably start using reddit less.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 year ago

Yes and No.

Smaller communities with no equivalent, I'm there and still active. Technology, memes and world news, I'm here. But I'm also on other sites more again.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 year ago

I've checked the frontpage from time to time just to monitor what's changing, but I have yet to log in.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 year ago

I think I'm like most people here on this one. I avoid Reddit unless I absolutely need to find an answer to a question that can only be solved by a random saint from, like, 5 years ago

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 year ago

Not really, since I went back once or twice but then realised how little value I get from there and how much time I waste there. I also try to reduce my time on lemmy but at least everything is new and fresh here.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 year ago

I keep the app on my phone. I use it as a porn site at this point.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 year ago

I stopped by once to double check my stuff was still deleted.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Nope they got porn here now

Sometimes I open up the home page to see what's up, then I see what's up is less interesting than it used to be and less interesting than what's happening here. And I close it pretty quickly. I'm still using it as part of my Google searches when I need quick human answers. It's gonna continue to be a historical resource in that regard. No getting around that. But my account only exists so that I can access those resources without too much fuss. It's not something I use to post or contribute. I used the Sign In With Apple feature to just generate a throwaway anonymous account after I deleted my 11 year old account.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 year ago

I literally only use it to check if there's a new Chainsaw Man chapter out so I open r/ChainsawMan once every two weeks, that's about it

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 year ago

Yes, just a lot less because theres no app for it, so I only check it from a desktop PC instead of constantly the way I have in the past.

Maybe it's just me but the volume of interesting posts has fallen off a cliff after July 1st. The front page has much less activity and noticably more of it is reposts (which were there before, just a much higher ratio now).

The niche subreddits were always the key draw though, those still only exist on Reddit and nowhere else on the internet.

Occasionally, after seeing something in the news regarding Reddit, I will use libreddit.kavin.rocks to see if that news, or any other negative press is anywhere on r/all.

Most recently was about them removing rewards and coins, and prior to that was code in the app that appears to allude to a cash for karma reward system.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 year ago

Just checked today and found out that they decided to rob all users of their coins.

Unfortunately some topic specific subs haven't made the jump to Lemmy yet, so for those I still have to check there occasionally

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 year ago (2 children)

I still check some subs, like recent infos on the war in ukraine. And some others that have not catches up in terms of activity…

But it’s getting less and less. I also open Apollo less frequently, realising that it doesn’t work anymore

I do not at all. I’m avoiding even Google Search results that go to Reddit. I have not used Reddit since June 12, other than to fully wipe all of my accounts on June 30. I’ve moved on and it’s been an easier transition than I thought it would be.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 year ago

I don't use it any more. At most when people refer to something Reddit here, specially in c/snoocalypse, I check it then archive it then link the archive.

That said I don't blame people who still use it, even if I encourage people to not to.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 year ago

Literally just the HFY subreddit and looking for answers to questions about 3d printing etc.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 year ago

I was searching for a fix for some MS bullshit and clicked on a link that had a good answer... and lo and behold, Reddit. "Came for the cats, stayed for the empathy." Yes, they still have that on the banner. Lol!!

I deleted my account during the "strike", and this was my first time back. I couldn't upvote the poster, and for a second that made me sad.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 year ago

I don't. Since the beginning of this month, I only visited it 2 times where a Google search pointed out a post there, that is it. And even when it pop ups on the Google search result I tend to first check out other links.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 year ago

I deleted my profile, but of course I still land there sometimes from Google results

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 year ago

Maybe 2 or 3 times a week. There's some support communities on there that I'm a part of and check in with on there.

But learning about Reddit's behaviour the last month or so has been something of an eye opener and for now I'm enjoying exploring here (and actually reading ebooks again) as an alternative

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago)

Sometimes. I'm very active on Reddit before the Reddit API change. I have moved to Lemmy since. Since Reddit is blocked in Indonesia, I usually use it as a secondary platform. I just checked it once in a while when using a VPN or using DNS-on-HTTPS.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 year ago

only when searching for minecraft modding stuff, although i don't have an account anymore

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 year ago

Only if a search sends me there and other links aren't giving me what I need

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 year ago

Hmm, not really. As I've said before - a lot of the news stuff is also on Ground News, WaPo, Mastodon or Lemmy. There's no great replacement for /r/sysadmin, but that needed replacing as it got to be useless over the last few years. I don't know if there's a /c/changemyview or not, but that isn't necessary.

Actually, I just spend more time doing other stuff for entertainment - read more books, catch up on more podcasts, yes watch more youtube, TV, Movies whatever. Go outside, walk the dog. I'm kind of surprised how much time I can spend on lemmy lol.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 year ago

Haven't commented on a single post since I wiped my account. I check the news and world news subreddits and then move on.
