Oh, I assumed that they were recalling it for being hideous. It's a Mustang station wagon. Also, at least for me, that article is littered with ads for the Mach-E.
Ok, with that out of the way, I don't think it's fair to say that this is a problem with the battery. The component in question is inside the battery housing but not actually part of the energy-storage mechanism. It's just an under-specced mechanical switch. This sort of design flaw could happen in any car, not just an electric car.
(I do suppose we're more likely to see problems like this in electric cars because they're so new and haven't gone through many iterations of improvement.)
