I was going to say "Trump cut their funding."

[-] logicbomb@lemmy.world 86 points 9 months ago

Does it have to do with the way that they cropped out the artist's signature? Maybe it's due to a lawsuit.

The big fucking constellation of mirrors from Reflect Orbital sweeped over our equipment and destroyed everything. Also his eyes are now toasted.

What the fuck is this bullshit? This is literally out of a Scrooge McDuck story. Not even a joke, I literally have it on paper

Edit: here's a page Scrooge explains orbital mirrors

Maybe we can get Disney to copyright this company into oblivion 🤔

E pensare che una volta queste idee da parte di zio paperone erano un monito e un'esagerazione

"Why does the ephemeris keep getting lower and lower?"

[-] Evilsandwichman@hexbear.net 9 points 9 months ago

That would legit be an awesome way to tell your colleagues Earth is about to be a parking spot for a meteor

Celebratory staff outing with a free picnic to honor a newly discovered comet on safe, far away orbit?

If you are here asking: "Is this a science meme?"

Probably, yes. We use the Dawkins definition of meme: a replicating idea, not just an image macro with a fact on it. A good post here doesn't need to teach you something. It needs to make you ask something: who, what, where, when, and especially why or how.

Science isn't a filing cabinet of facts, it's a conversation. For example, a photo of an eel or other localized wildlife counts because most people never see one, and wonder is the first step of inquiry. A car meme counts if it makes you curious about what's under the bonnet. If you want to talk about something you noticed in the world, chances are someone else wants to talk about it too.

We moderate for vibe, not category. Pruning is light, especially where a post creates interesting discussion. Experimenting is encouraged, but keep it in good faith and never punch down.
