Most of them are only doing it to "trigger the libs" (totally different from the alt-right) and a lot of them are LARPers (totally different from the alt-right), so no they can't stay on one instance, they need an audience to troll properly.
If they actually just cared about socialism they'd be off circlejerking in their own instances about how capitalists are evil and Stalin was a saint, but again that's not why the majority of them are doing it, so they will keep adding new instances and posting across to anywhere that hasn't defederated them, because they want to piss as many people off as possible, and talking shit to "liberals" while being "socialists" is the best way to trigger both (American politics) sides.

Also I can't speak for others, but I think socialism is great, screaming at "the libs" constantly and pretending that genocide is cool and ok are my issues with them. I'm pretty sure hexbear was still in the top 3 largest instances even after the big surge from reddit and they are at least 3 years old, a lot of that time they were the largest instance while being defederated from everyone. Running an inperson leftist event like a comedy show takes a lot of effort, potentially money and will very likely only attract an already radicalised section of people. Watering down the message to appeal to a wider audience is possible but not ideal and attracting a wider audience means there is a higher risk of physical confrontation.
