Innovation is when you charge $300 for a vial of insulin

I was thinking about the crazy financial products that crashed the real estate market in 2007/8. I don't think a communist would've come up with that shit. I kinda know this because I was a communist then (as I am now) and I could plainly see that it was bad news.

I wouldn't be surprised if the people who came up with it also knew it would be bad news, but also that it would be good for them individually.

Like the way those securities worked, nobody was gonna be caught out individually. The only way they go wrong is if the market takes a bad turn and then you'd have a horrible domino effect that takes it from bad to worse, but at that point your golden parachute activates and everyone gets bailouts. Kind of brilliant, in a fucked up way.

Salvador Allende was this close to using crypto and gaming to create a radical decentralized universal basic income before he got 9/11'd by Nixon, but go off, queen

Humans are only curious to make money didn't you know?

Back in the old old days god would give you modern banknotes to be curious about what happen when you put seeds in dirt.

If only China still had landlords forcing people to sell their children into slavery and women being unable to walk more than 50 metres because their feet are bound. Imagine how advanced a country they could be then. sadness

Innovation is when we find new ways to exploit and hurt each other. Anything else is just frivolity

China already leads in tech. Even in the places where the US has held onto their advantage the longest, like military R&D, China is overtaking us, but on an "overall" level we got lapped a while back.

[-] [email protected] 11 points 3 days ago

Yeah but now the goalposts changed. They're too advanced now I wanna see GRASS on my FRONT YARD. How evil of them.

Communism is incapable of directing all the brightest minds towards making ads 3% more manipulative which is why its doomed to failure.

Simone Gao, time to find another anti-China grift angle

Oh, it's the mistaking the output of capital as being innovation and not just rent-seeking episode again

seen-this-one

[-] [email protected] 16 points 3 days ago

I find that line of thinking ironic considering how throughout the 10s, so many smart people who could have been doctors or engineers instead became web developers and data scientists for glorified advertising companies

[-] [email protected] 14 points 3 days ago

Hey Simone Gao, why was the cult you are a part of setting children on fire in the 90s? Was it because of innovation?

Chinese short documentary

Actually, I was off by a bit: in January 2001, a group of Falun Gong cultists self-immolated in Tiananmen Square, bringing their children with them and setting them on fire, leading to the death of a 12 year old girl. This is who western liberals support.

Omg, they were trying to do like the monk resistance to the crack down on Buddhists in South Vietnam, weren't they? That doesn't seem as great when you make other people do it...

[-] [email protected] 2 points 2 days ago

Yeah kinda but unlike Vietnamese Buddhists the Falun Gong is just Chinese scientology

[-] [email protected] 2 points 2 days ago

A social and economical order which gives people more free time is incapable of nurturing curiosity sure

[-] [email protected] 5 points 3 days ago
[-] [email protected] 55 points 3 days ago

It's only genuine curiosity if you're being exploited for it.
