Lol, I don't need launchers for my launchers. Gimme a call when I can actually play all of my Xbox games on PC.

[-] [email protected] -1 points 5 days ago* (last edited 5 days ago)

It's not a launcher. It's a whole new UI, basically like SteamOS's Gamescope.

[-] [email protected] 5 points 5 days ago

So it's a UI that launches games, what some would call a launcher, and when you launch games from other launchers, those launchers will launch from this launcher. Sounds like semantics to me.

[-] [email protected] -1 points 5 days ago* (last edited 5 days ago)

It is semantics, but only so far as you are not understanding the difference.

It does not open another launcher, it launches the game directly, just like Steam does when you "add to library". It replaces the launcher.

[-] [email protected] 2 points 5 days ago

Adding a game that requires another launcher in Steam opens that launcher when opening a game added using add to library.

As a Steam Deck user, SteamOS is really missing this. Downloading GOG games without entering Desktop Mode would simplify things a lot for me.

No thx, I don't need MS spyware on my linux distro.

[-] [email protected] 0 points 5 days ago

Is Valve spyware okay tho?

[-] [email protected] 4 points 5 days ago* (last edited 5 days ago)

The lesser of two evils. Call me when MS makes a better compatibility layer than proton.

Love the whataboutism tho, when that's the last line of defense one knows MS is truly indefensible...

edit: spelling

[-] [email protected] -2 points 5 days ago* (last edited 5 days ago)

What you’re calling Proton is mostly Wine which was developed by countless people unaffiliated with Valve and funded primarily by Codeweavers over past couple of decades.

There’s no lesser evil here, Valve is out there to make money by any means necessary, including marketing online gambling to children. Which is also why feature like this will never be implemented in Steam - they have a monopoly so why would they make it easier for others.

That is quite literally the point of owning and operating a business, income that is profitable is what every well developed business strives for.

[-] [email protected] 1 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago)

That’s the case because of the capitalism of course but somehow Sony, Nintendo and Microsoft were mostly able to restrain themselves in that regard. I guess they face more scrutiny because their finances are public and Valve can pretend to be your friend because you don’t know how much money they print with electronic gambling. Valve has more in common with EA here.

[-] [email protected] 2 points 5 days ago

Like I said, whataboutism.

[-] [email protected] 0 points 5 days ago

It would be whataboutism if I changed subjects but I’m pointing out both companies are quite similar when it comes to distributing proprietary software, openwashing and relying vendor lock-in.

[-] [email protected] 2 points 5 days ago* (last edited 5 days ago)

I don't have the energy or the inclination to educate bad faith agents on the internet. Mentioning Valve when I Iiterally only mentioned Linux and MS is whataboutism.

That there is the main reason I left reddit. Go find some windmills to fight.

Meanwhile, anyone reading this would be smart not to fall for MS's bootleg low effort gaming software ads and steer clear from anything that parasitic monolith produces. One never knows when the OS you use for gaming is used to guide bombs to your building.

You do get your games through Steam, don’t you? It’s a fairly safe assumption given that you stated you play on Linux. Valve monopoly there is even stronger than on Windows.

Gaming spaces are full of pointless negativity these days so my „whataboutism” was meant to showcase that much of it is rooted in tribalism, serves no other purpose than to feel good about yourself and it can cut both ways.

That there is the main reason I left reddit. Go find some windmills to fight.

There’s plenty of gaming communities in the Fediverse to pick from, you won’t find me in other ones.

pointless negativity

Negativity towards a genocide enabling monopolistic cheating criminal enterprise is never pointless, in fact, it's more than warranted. Microsoft is indistinguishable from a criminal syndicate and will bribe, cheat and kill to facilitate its monopoly.

[-] [email protected] 1 points 4 days ago

Microsoft is a huge company so unless it’s the gaming division doing the Gaza genocide then you’re engaging in an actual whataboutism that you dislike so much.

I hate to come to these terms because I don't know you personally and I'm sure you're othewise a wonderful chap but the sentence quoted above is profoundly idiotic at every level. Please don't stoop to this level of stupidity, it's beneath your intelligence I'd wager.

I'll provide an example so you can see it too.

~~Microsoft~~ Russia is a huge ~~company~~ country so unless it’s the ~~gaming division~~ Abramovic doing the ~~Gaza~~ Donbass genocide, ~~then you’re~~ putting sanctions on him is engaging in an actual whataboutism that you dislike so much.

I think you forgot to make a point in your comment, unless saying my opinions are dumb is everything you wanted to communicate. In that case, may I ask you to elaborate on why you think that is because all I’m seeing is a speedrun of Godwin’s law.

[-] [email protected] 2 points 4 days ago

I apologise for overestimating your reading comprehension.

Ad hominem, you must feel so clever.

[-] [email protected] 0 points 4 days ago

That's just pointless negativity.

[-] [email protected] 0 points 4 days ago

Yes, you seem to revel in it which was my point exactly.

You don’t seem to understand the difference between criticism of action and criticism of character, I haven’t engaged in the latter yet.
