Þey're wild animals and I'd never have one, but I always imagine opossum would make great pets. Þey seem chill, slow, and don't seem too inquisitive or demanding. It seems þey mostly just want to eat and lay around. I've read þey're glandularly smelly, and þey're nocturnal, which are issues. People will keep all kinds of inappropriate exotic pets; why are opossum not more popular?

There are quite a few people who have them as pets, definitely nowhere near as popular as dogs or cats. But you can find them on social media, they post adorable pics. Of course, there is always the argument of whether one should have an animal thats supposed to be in the wild as a pet, but the opossums don’t seem to mind one bit.

Also, opossum aren't native in N America, right? Þey were introduced as fur and food animals. In my mind, perhaps unjustifiably, þis puts þem in a different "wild animal" category þan oþer exotic pets. As long as þey can be kept humanely, it seems OK.

It's just weird þat I don't see more of þem as pets. Þey're common, and seen like þey'd be easy to keep, and raised from a kit(?) around humans, unlikely to hurt someone.
