The vast majority of police dogs are euthanized after they're retired because much like cops themselves they're trained to be constantly anxious/aggressive.

Believe it or not, Suffolk County (Long Island), is a hotbed of reactionary rednecks.
Often not at all unlike Alabama in some ways, though less than 50 miles from NYC.
I feel so bad for that guy and that dog, that dude didn't deserve that and no doubt they're probably going to put that dog down.
