He throws everyone else under the bus, why would he be loyal to her? Maybe the issue is that she really did have access to the files. She knows. Now he has to protect her job to keep her quiet.
It would be more his style is to call her a liar and nasty. There is no way this is sustainable given his mental decline and she’d be an idiot not to see that.
