I had this exact scenario with a substitute teacher when I was in Kindergarten because I made a purple tree, and accidentally destroyed her because she said "Real trees aren't purple" to which I replied "I know, but this isn't a real tree it's a coloring page and I like purple". She was pissed and my mom was called, who pretty much agreed with me. My normal teacher Mrs.K would have been like fuck yeah dude purple trees, but she was sick that day lol.

Dang, this hits close to home.

I remember getting chewed out for drawing a tree sideways, unable to articulate that it was on purpose because the tree had been cut down.

Fortunately I rediscovered my passion for art as an adult.

This ... is heartbreaking.

Every bit as sad (and true) today as it was in 1978.
