Dear patient lemmings, I am in need of your help. I'm searching for games that have some GOD DAAMN OSTs and come with a great story or/and gameplay.

Games that tick these requirements for me:

  • Danganronpa 1/2/V3 + Ultra Despair Girls (most recently finished)
  • Persona 4/5 (waiting for Persona 3 remaster)
  • NFS Most Wanted (2005, 2012), Carbon, ProStreet
  • Doom 2016, Eternal
  • Test Drive Unlimited 2
  • Life is Strange
  • Ace Combat 7
  • Omori
  • ULTRAKILL

This is all going to be "great gameplay" rather than "great story".

If you have a way to play 3DS games and a tolerance for punishment in your JRPG dungeon crawlers, the Etrian Odyssey series has some of Yuzo Koshiro's best work.

You already have Persona games in your list, but let's add some more Shin Megami Tensei:

Finally ... Monster Hunter is an incredibly fun and addictive game series, and though it doesn't center the music quite as much as a typical JRPG does, it's got some great stuff. I particularly like the soundtrack of MH: World -- although the newer game MH: Rise tried something new with its mostly choral arrangements, I think they are not quite as memorable overall.

The Noctourne OSTs are awesome, thanks for the flashbacks!

Interesting that no one mentioned Rebel Galaxy. Granted that the songs are probably not to everyone's liking. https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLRMcXkadosW43B18ZSbYFqBnFn2myQwRw

Wow I didn't expect rock songs in a space adventure game. Nice

Rebel Galaxy and its sequel Rebel Galaxy Outlaw let you also customize the soundtrack completely with a very simple folder system.

It's good that developers make it easy to customize the soundtrack, although I didn't feel the need to as I found the songs for Rebel Galaxy exceptionally good. Have not played Outlaw yet. I've read reviews that gameplay wise it wasn't as good as the first one.

Caves of Qud doesn't have a very big OST but I happened to absolutely love it. The game is similar to Rogue (or more directly Dwarf Fortress adventure mode), as in time only passes when you move and everything is represented by a tile, but it has pretty good controller support as of a recent update.

Undertale, love the Temmie Village song. The OST can be heard in all kinds of videos. Maybe since you liked ULTRAKILL (based on graphics), you'll like Undertale.

NieR:Automata is an absolute banger. It has a banger of a soundtrack and a really great story. I personally love the park area and the forest.

Subnautica, the OST, really helps to create an immersive experience. It is sometimes mysterious, it can be dark but also adventurous. The music kind of guides you through the uncharted lands.

The Legend of Zelda: BotW I know, it's a WIIU/Switch game, and I know TotK is out, but the design and the music of the game are fitting so well together. The OST is so incredible.

Guilty Gear not even getting mentioned once is criminal, the entire franchise has amazing music, to the point where the fanbase and the fighting game community likes to joke that they get a free game with every new music album whenever a new game comes out.

To add to this, basically everything Daisuke Ishiwatari makes, who is mainly responsible for almost everything about the game.

Mighty Switch Force is apparently really fun. The music is like candy. Same composer as Shovel Knight -- Jake Kaufman.

I have absolutely jammed to the original Unreal Tournament (UT’99) soundtrack on my commute.

  • The Yakuza/Like A Dragon series. You can get good sales on the mainline games if you wait.
  • Based on your 1st bullet, gonna assume you already played Ace Attorney/Great Ace Attorney.

Understandable assumption, but I haven't played Ace Attorney yet, but a lot of others have already recommended it.

Some games with soundtracks I particularly enjoyed over the last couple years:

  • A Hat in Time - a cute, fun collect-a-thon platformer with a kickass soundtrack. This one is particularly fun to play and hits nostalgia vibes for the early 3D Mario games.
  • Shantae and the Seven Sirens - 2D platformer with an energetic chiptune-y soundtrack. The game itself is OK, but the soundtrack is what really made this one for me.
  • Paradise Killer - vaporwave inspired surreal murder mystery
  • Subnautica - underwater survival and crafting game with a soundtrack that set the mood very well
  • Demons Roots - 18+ RPGMaker game where you lead a demon uprising to reclaim the surface world, invading country after country freeing slaves as you go. Very dark game that is unusually good for the type of game it is. If you're not put off by the RPGMaker doujin wabi-sabi and are tolerant of adult content in games this one is worth a look. There are some absolute bangers in the soundtrack.
  • Pyre - Lord of the Rings meets 3v3 basketball with a very enjoyable soundtrack by Darren Korb (Bastion).

Actually thank you for the reminder, I forgot about playing Hat in Time entirely. It was a really fun experience.
