Time to look for a new job ig.

My boss just grinned and laughed awkwardly as I explained why I want a raise and why I deserve it. The company wants me to get certifications on my own time and I want more money to make up sacrificing my free time. If I don't get the raise (pretty sure they aren't going to give it to me) I'm not getting the certs they want and will do the bare fucking minimum.

Then in a meeting with all the bosses and HR, I asked if they could ask the other employees to message me if they're coming in sick so I can mask up. I'm the first person here every day and I have an autoimmune disease and have gotten very sick from my coworkers multiple times this year. My superiors told me that they can ask but told me that I NEED to take precautions outside of work. They told me it's only fair that I take precautions all the time outside of work since apparently people texting me before they come in is too much to ask for. They brought up places outside of work that they know I go to and were so shitty about me not masking up there. I was also asked if I considered a permanent wfh position but was then told that permanent wfh would prevent me from advancing to higher positions. I have already had a promotion dangled in front of my face for a year only to be told that the standards I need to meet before that are higher than the standards people already in that position are already held to.

I was also given shit for calling off for being sick or having migraines. God forbid I take care of myself.

I'm getting surgery in July and their only concern when I told them was how much time I'll need to take off. I was prepared to only take one day off and suffer through working from home. Now they're pushing me to go on short term disability for my recovery. I can't financially afford that.

Take the work from home (you're not getting a raise or a promotion anyway, sorry), look for a new job, and do the bare minimum here in the mean time. This sucks and you deserve to be treated with respect.

Thank you. This job was so great until I started wanting more than what they provide

Sounds like a place that doesn't like to mentor or provide growth opportunities

The worst part is that when they hired me they spoke about how they wanted me to eventually get promoted. Now I do level 2 tech work for level 1 wages. I'm just not allowed to do onsite tech jobs, which are exclusive to level 2 and above..🙄

And they never mentioned the requirements for the certs they want now? Classic move the goal posts. Fuck them. They can get bent

They didn't mention certs until a few weeks after I was hired. We were allowed to study on company time until they wanted someone to take the test for the current cert they want. I took it, failed, and now it's all supposed to be done in personal time because apparently us studying on company time isn't worth it to them despite us also doing our jobs and studying too? It's a mess.

If the company is going to pay for the certification, it will still help in looking for something else.

[-] [email protected] 2 points 2 weeks ago

They aren't paying for it or any future certs. I do plan on getting them, but only because I want to land a better job. I'm hiding my time and will be staying to get more experience so I know I can get a better job

That’s ridiculous and invasive they turned the mask thing into a tribunal on your private habits outside of work.

Think the HR lady FB stalks me a bit. I go to a horse stables and she followed the page after I showed up in pics there. She mentioned how I go there a lot. I'm constantly in pics on the stables FB page because I'm a member of their community.

I’m sure the office has just as much fresh air circulating as the stables -_-

Totally has a nice breeze blowing through constantly. The cubicles are open to the sky!

Honestly, it sounds like you could use a union. If you have a good relationship with your coworkers, you may want to contact the IWW and see what they make of your situation.

My company is 13 people. A lot have been here for a long time and are fine with this shit. Only 3 of us are unhappy

[-] [email protected] 10 points 2 weeks ago

3 people may be enough, believe it or not. It wouldn't hurt to toss 'em an email and see what they suggest. With a company that small, it's likely they'd take you on.

If you have sick days in your contract never tell them the reason you are sick just state you are feeling unwell. They don't need to know shit when it comes to your personal health outside of work and what you tell them.

Lmao I don't get sick days. I got 11 days of PTO this years and I've already used 8 of them for being sick/ a family emergency and 2 are being used for a vacation. 🫠

Sorry to hear 😔

[-] [email protected] 7 points 2 weeks ago

What a fucking shitty situation all around, I'm sending well wishes, I hope you find somewhere you're actually respected as a human being. Take care my friend

[-] [email protected] 3 points 2 weeks ago

Thank you very much. This whole thing is really upsetting because this job seemed super nice until I started asking for more than what the bosses were already providing.

[-] [email protected] 2 points 2 weeks ago

Yeah, that really sucks, what a frustrating way to be let down :(

[-] [email protected] 3 points 2 weeks ago

I think the worst part is that my coworkers have advocated for me getting a promotion and it's not gonna happen. The only people who don't want to see me grow are the people in charge. The others in the trenches (the other techs) are so supportive.

[-] [email protected] 1 points 2 weeks ago

:((( its good to at least be surrounded by others who have your back and are supporting eachother even if your bosses suck

So your headline for earlier post and as expected here are the results.

Just noted this has nothing to do with you. You did the right thing to bring this up but at the end of the day, they will always will tell you to get fucked.

I still go through this song and dance but I do mostly to fuck with them. It gets better once you know they won't budge so you can just fuck with them during the process and watch them get bent out of shape with increasingly idiotic explanations.

Look for a new job, do bare minimum. You should be doing this anyway.
