This man just generalized 8 billion peoples’ dreams.

Gatekeeping has no limits. You can probably even gatekeep gatekeeping.

[–] [email protected] 10 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago)

Honestly you gotta have a lot of knowledge for gatekeeping, not many people are suited to gatekeep /s

[–] [email protected] 7 points 1 year ago

I remember when gatekeeping was for the truly elite, now we have all of these newbies around who know enough to think they're better than the uninitiated

Completely false. They don't show up in YOUR dreams. They definitely do in mine.

You might just be bad at dreaming and don't have vivid dreams. Don't worry, you can train that

[–] [email protected] 7 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Yeah I think this is it, some people don't dream vividly and assume that's how everyone's dreams are.

In the last few days, I have lucid dreams almost every night, but I also wake up midnight and then fall asleep pretty easily again so I basically use WBTB without noticing it. Still can't control it and I really should start keeping a dream diary again. The dreams were incredibly vivid and I still remember actually walking and the feeling of touching things.

Just today I had a lucid dream and looked at my phone to tell the time. Then I remembered this post and thought "ha, I can use my phone in dreams"

I just always forget to stabilize my dream and wake up when closing my eyes.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 1 year ago

Awesome :) I used to lucid dream all the time as a kid, it was amazing. It seemed to stop as I got older though I'm sure if I practiced I could get it back.

My dreams are always incredibly vivid and clear, and long though. Last night my dream was over a week or so in dream time 😆

Phone breaking anxiety, anyone? I have broken several phones by dropping them in my dreams. I got my first in ~2002 and I haven't broken a single phone since then. I guess I just jinxed it, but still... I definitely dream about phones about once a year.

[–] [email protected] 29 points 1 year ago (2 children)

Not in regular dreams for me. However i used to habe a recurring dream where i accidentally broke my phone display every time. I thibk it's because I was poor and broke my phone display a lot.

[–] [email protected] 6 points 1 year ago

I've had many dreams where I've tried to use my phone but the display is all glitched out and distorted, or totally non responsive, or the battery immediately dies. Phones are never useful and always frustrating in my dreams.

[–] [email protected] 5 points 1 year ago

My only guess for why my phone never shows up is that it just works. I never really drop it and I don't spend much of my day on it. But I can understand if you drop your phone a lot why it might be popping up!

[–] [email protected] 25 points 1 year ago

You don't know my dreams

[–] [email protected] 25 points 1 year ago

That's just not true.

[–] [email protected] 23 points 1 year ago (4 children)

I’ve definitely used my phone in dreams before. People have also said that you can’t read properly in dreams and that’s one way to know you’re dreaming (I was interested in lucid dreaming for a bit), but words look just fine to me when I’m dreaming

[–] [email protected] 11 points 1 year ago

Same. I’ve had phones and text in dreams. Another trigger is supposed to be looking at a clock and it won’t look right but I’ve checked the time in dreams many times.

[–] [email protected] 7 points 1 year ago (1 children)

I've opened my eyes IRL trying to focus on the letters on a sign in a dream.

[–] [email protected] 4 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Oooo that’s interesting. Did it wake you up?

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 year ago (1 children)

It did. I was frustrated that I never found out what the sign said! Lol!

When I was around 8 years old, I lost a new issue of Nintendo Power in a Service Merchandise store. That may be the most aged statement I've ever made.

Anyway, this was a very distressing experience for me; my disappointment and loss of hope sticks with me to this day. I vividly remember dreaming about finding it some time after. However, in my dream I recall flipping through the pages only to find garbled nonsense, page after page.

This was actually more distressing to my confused, young mind. I don't even try to read in dreams anymore, but maybe I should; it would be a dead giveaway.

I still miss that issue. It was the Dr. Mario issue for anyone wondering.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 1 year ago

RIP Dr Mario issue of Nintendo Power :(

[–] [email protected] 5 points 1 year ago

Well it really depends. When dreaming you mostly see what you expect to see. I sometimes can read and sometimes can't.

I can certainly say that my short term memory in dreams is really bad. It's like you're tripping balls on LSD or something. (at least in my experience. It might be different for you)

[–] [email protected] 21 points 1 year ago (2 children)

I dreamt about my phone. I sometimes suffer from false awakenings (thinking you have woken up, bit you are still dreaming). So, I thought that I had woken up and everything looked like normal. Then I got my phone to check the time and instead of the time, there was a weird cube swirling around on my phone. So, then I knew I was still dreaming.

Then I wanted to wake up, but I couldn't, so I panicked and it became a nightmare where I suddenly saw a ghost in my room that was floating around with her head in a very unnatural position. Then she started screaming and I woke up. (But this is not the important part, the important part is that there was a phone in my dream.)

[–] [email protected] 5 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Those dreams are the most terrifying. Maybe it's just me who never sees their phone lol

[–] [email protected] 3 points 1 year ago

Yes, it was very scary. Maybe that is why I still remember it and the phone.

Maybe you have nicer stuff to dream about than phones. :-)

[–] [email protected] 4 points 1 year ago (1 children)

I false awaken every night and basically every time I have a lucid dream. So the first thing I ask myself when waking up is if everything makes sense

[–] [email protected] 4 points 1 year ago (1 children)

I found it really scary. It think it is horrible to have that every night. I used to do the same thing. However, I found that the only times I felt I needed to check, I was sleeping. So, being unsure about whether I am asleep is actually already a good indicator.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Same. I just assume I'm dreaming. Not really scary though. I can easily turn it into a lucid dream

I have dreamed I was sitting using my phone and messaging friends and family before.

It was odd too because they were legit conversations that would be things my actual friends and family would talk about or bring up but when I would make up, confused at why I was asleep, I'd look at my phone and find these conversations never actually happened.

When I try to remember the conversations it all comes out as upper and lowercase letters and numbers. Like my brain is trying to encrypt the messages I got in these dreams.

I worked at a Verizon store for 9 years. I definitely had dreams about phones. Usually them getting wet.

[–] [email protected] 11 points 1 year ago

Phones definitely show up in dreams.

[–] [email protected] 11 points 1 year ago

Whenever I have a phone in my dream I can’t type on it. Just endless typos and gibberish and frustration. Sometimes kicks me into lucid dreaming if I pick up on it not working

[–] [email protected] 11 points 1 year ago (1 children)

I've dreamt about being locked in a phone booth traveling through time collecting famous people of the past to help me with an English paper. Who says we don't dream of phones?

[–] [email protected] 5 points 1 year ago

All we are is dust in the wind, dude!

[–] [email protected] 10 points 1 year ago (1 children)

I dreamed just the other day that I broke mine.

[–] [email protected] 8 points 1 year ago (1 children)

That's because much like birds phones aren't real.

For me I had a phone trigger a lucid dream because I noticed a small discrepancy. Guess that proves how much I’m on it.

[–] [email protected] 4 points 1 year ago

Same, a phone triggered lucidity for me too. But in this case it was an office desk phone, and the text was just wrong on the screen.

[–] [email protected] 6 points 1 year ago

I have a recurring problem of dialing 911 in my dreams and the call never goes through, different dreams but anytime I try calling for help in any of them the call never connects when I need it to.

[–] [email protected] 6 points 1 year ago

I've had multiple dreams where people from my past messaged me something meaningful, but before i can fully read it, I accidentally scroll past it and spend the rest of the dream frantically trying to find it again.

[–] [email protected] 5 points 1 year ago

I have panic dreams about my battery being empty or me not finding something, or software crashing all the time. I am not a relaxed dreamer.

[–] [email protected] 4 points 1 year ago

I often dream about my phone, and for some reason it always has an app that lets me time travel. My younger brother has the same thing.

[–] [email protected] 4 points 1 year ago (1 children)

I've had dreams where I've pulled out my phone to take a picture of something beautiful that I want to remember and then I wake up upset that I didn't actually take the picture.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 year ago

That might not even be a dream for me. My phone actually sometimes doesn't take the picture

[–] [email protected] 4 points 1 year ago

Not related to OP... I misread "phones" as "planes" and was confused for a solid 5 minutes why no one was talking about dreaming about airplanes.

But yeah, I definitely dreamt about the first iPhone before it was released...

[–] [email protected] 3 points 1 year ago

The difference between dreaming of a book vs dreaming the story the book told. The phone is simply a medium, unless it acquires some other kind of association tied more directly to the actual object.

My thought, anyway.
