I'm here because I got permanently banned for violence

I said "bad bot" to a nazi.

I doubt they'll ever reinstate the people they've banned. They ban based on IMEI numbers, so it's impossible to make another account unless you get a new device

Are you sure it was IMEI? Unless you were using reddit over sms they shouldn't have access to that. IP addresses on the other hand they do have, and those are network specific.

I'll see if I can wait out an IP ban, apparently those only last around 100 days or so before they dump the data

I think its because some ISPs rotate users IPs, because we're running out of v4 ips, which every website uses.

[-] [email protected] 2 points 3 months ago

Does your IP never change? When I had a landline I had a new IP every month.

[-] [email protected] 1 points 3 months ago

Absolutely no idea! It's not something I've looked at. I don't have a home internet connection, I don't need one, so I just have my phone

Mobile IPs tend to change very often. You can look up your IP (there are many websites for this), turn airplane mode on and turn it off again. This could assign a different IP (at least it did when I just tried).

Good to know!

I'll lie low for a while. I had a cult following for my "performance art" so I'm not exactly easy to miss when I post one of my creative efforts...

pretty sure on Android an app can read your IMEI if they ask for the Phone Calls permission and you approve it

I don't know if the Reddit app does this, I never used their official app

[-] [email protected] 1 points 3 months ago

So you could start using the website and you'd be fine.

This comment thread makes me think it would be cool if there was a Lemmy community for sharing Reddit ban evasion info

[-] [email protected] 4 points 3 months ago* (last edited 3 months ago)

I got judged hard for asking for that months ago when I got banned for "evasion" lol, I actually want to evade the site in gernal now tho

Probably not IMEI as 3rd party android applications haven't been able to see that since android 10 (there are other persistent identifiers such as widevine DRM ID)

You probably realise but even if they could, you could get around this by simply using the web browser to access Reddit

Still banned straight away

There's more to device recognition than IMEI, and I was using the proper app out of convenience

I want it in my pocket, not on a computer

You are being fingerprinted..

Step 0 is using a different IP not tied to your previous activity

Making anonymous reddit accounts is not hard, although you're better off here anyway

[-] [email protected] 0 points 3 months ago

I did the IP thing

It's definitely device fingerprinting

[-] [email protected] 3 points 3 months ago

You encountered a real person! And they were not happy getting called a nazi.

[-] [email protected] 2 points 3 months ago

I guess they had a problem with being told that supporting Musk's sig heil gestures as "funny" meant they were cool with nazis

[-] [email protected] 1 points 3 months ago

Someone would think Musk's gesture was funny? God, it was concerning at least, phew.

[-] [email protected] 2 points 3 months ago

They were a nazi

They thought it was funny because they liked it

"Reddit - The heart of the internet". I wonder, when Lemmy would be the heart of the internet. Reddit might actually be taken down, so people won't have a "Lemmy alternative".

[-] [email protected] 2 points 3 months ago

Thanks for posting. Ctrl+F'ed that thread for "Lemmy" and did what I could.

[-] [email protected] 2 points 3 months ago

On sh reddit, there is a searchbar.

[-] [email protected] 1 points 3 months ago
[-] [email protected] 1 points 3 months ago

sh.reddit.com - aka the new default reddit ui.

[-] [email protected] 3 points 3 months ago* (last edited 3 months ago)

Ah, I'm still using old.reddit with RES. ~~It also has a search feature~~.

[-] [email protected] 2 points 3 months ago

Does it let you search the comments in a thread?

[-] [email protected] 3 points 3 months ago

I thought it did, but I might have been confusing it with filters. I find that Ctrl+F faster than setting up a filter.
