I’ll be playing Red Dead Redemption 2 and pokemon scarlet! I’ve had RDR2 since its release year and have never completed the story (a crime, I know lol) and I just got Pokemon as a gift, so my child self is super excited for that one!

Well, I haven't even started RDR 2 yet, so no judgements from me 😀.
Have fun with Pokémon!
Also waiting for Xenoblade, I started Xenoblade 3’s DLC last week and finished it this week. It’s not short; I just happened to have Spring Break off of school. My big questions about the series weren’t answered so I spent the last few days watching YouTube explanations of the plot and I think I’m ready for Xenoblade X.
I’m still avoiding Picross S 8 so that I give other games the proper attention they need. Of those games, I pulled Citizen Sleeper out of mothballs and played for an hour today. More than anything, it made me want to break out I Was A Teenage Exocolonist again. Or finally buy Famicom Detective Club: The Smiling Man (or whatever it is called).
I’m continuing on with Octopath Traveler II, inching my way through the story mode. I need to pay closer attention to the battles; the mobile game added an auto-battle mode so I’m very tuned out when I hear the battle music now.
In non-Switch news, I got to play Cabo, a fun card game, with my son today. I’ve been watching a walk-through of the Danganronpa fan game Project: Eden’s Garden. I was yelling at the video as I watched the first execution. I’m over ten hours into the videos now.
Heh, I did the same thing after finishing Xenoblade 3's DLC.
Cabo looks like a fun game. Seems a bit similar to Uno.
Last weekend was the first time in 2 months that I actually played a game for more than just a quick test to see if graphics were working on my PC. Something in a game gave me an unexpected emotional response that didn't feel right and caused me to just not play games for a while. I uninstalled thst game and stopped playing it. I'm feeling somewhat better now but the response was just a symptom of bigger issues I'm planning on getting help for.
As for what I did play last weekend, I did a bit of level/money grinding in Dragon Quest III HD-2D Remake. It's a big difficulty spike between Romaria and the pyramid and I got to the pyramid very under-leveled and underequipped. The grind is a slog though because monsters in the overworld don't give out much XP. That said they do give decent money so maybe you're supposed to rely more on items and equipment to get you through. Hopefully I don't have to grind TOO much more to feel comfortable venturing back in farther than the first few rooms.
It's completely fine to take a break from gaming (or any other hobby) now and then. Hope you feel better soon.
That's my biggest issue with these older games, too much grinding. I was hoping the remake would have reduced the need somewhat.
I played some more Brothership. Mario's Bomb attack is driving me crazy. As soon as I get the 30 Excellents for the medal I am never using that move again!
But most of my time has been and will still be dedicated to Monster Hunter Wilds. My main issue with the game right now is how story-driven it is. I don't know what is was like in World, but I don't like being kidnapped by the plot into areas I don't want to go yet and locked out of the quest board. I like the quest-based approach I've gotten to know, I don't need story segments before and after every single monster. It's okay for some of them to be optional! As an avid armor-collector, I like to take things at my own pace.
But that's a short-term issue, stories end eventually. The gameplay has been solid so far. My Switch Axe works beautifully, though I miss Soaring Wyvern Blade. It took some fiddling with the options and getting used to the controls to make the Seikret follow my orders properly. One wrong button and he starts automatically moving towards whatever the target is, which drove me crazy until I learned what the correct button is.
The one thing that really bothered me were the Soulflies, these little fireflies that highlight items and show you the way to your target. There's just too many of them! You can barely see what any item is because they absolutely swarm them! Luckily, if you're on PC, there's a mod to remove them. I'm sure a future update will add an option to at least turn them down a bit, though.
What shocked me recently were the drop rates of the rare items. I came across my first Plate-type drop and I was excited to get one on my first try! Those used to have 2-3% chances to drop, depending on their source. What I have seen so far were drop rates of 5, 7 and 12%! I hope that's just a Low Rank thing, because what's the point if everything is served on a silver platter? I'm here to hunt monsters, why are you giving me less reason to hunt monsters?
Last week, you asked about the performance and I haven't really had any issues. I even went from performance mode to balanced when I realized the game ran better than the benchmark led me to believe it would. I was wondering if that was ever going to bite me, but earlier today I fought Rey Dau, the thunder dragon. Lightning strikes and particles everywhere, the ground sparkling like mad and I didn't notice any significant frame drops.
I did, however, have a few moments where the game just stopped for 5-20 seconds. I don't think it's a performance issue though, since it seems to happen at complete random, even in the middle of dialogue once. It happened 3 times in my 17 hours and the game doesn't continue playing while it's frozen (i.e. the monster has to wait, too), so it's not actually causing any problems and I can live with that.
Heh, Is the Bomb attack difficult to pull off? Or just not worth it?
As a casual Monster Hunter fan, I guess changes might be for people like me. More story and better drops, both are things casual fans should like.
Those fireflies were in World too, but I don't recall them as much of an issue, maybe they changed them in Wilds.
What are your PC specs? Maybe you need a good machine to not get any performance issues.
The bomb attack is weird because it doesn't have its own timing. You set the timing yourself with Luigi and adapt to it with Mario simultaneously, which makes the rhythm as reliable as you yourself are. There's about a dozen bombs you have to hit that way to get that Excellent and one of them tends to slip through.
My PC is pretty much in the middle of the minimum and recommended specs. But I spent a lot of time in the benchmark last month fiddling with the setting to make it work. But I also don't need anything higher than 1080p/60fps to be happy.
Interesting. Sounds easy enough, but I guess I'll know when I play it.
Yeah, I am also pretty happy with 1080p/60 too, or as a switch user, even 720p/30 😀 but people have different expectations now. I have heard from some console users that some textures are very low quality. Could just be some optimization issue, hopefully it will be fixed soon.
Playing Trails Through Daybreak II!
Currently on Chapter 2-A.
Enjoying the game, but not as much as the previous one. It's partially because it's not as "fresh" due to it reusing the same cast and locations, but there's also issues with the main plot that so far feels too much like "filler". The usage of the main gimmick has been underwhelming too.
Main gimmick spoilers
The idea that you can get "Dead Ends" where your party dies and time is rewound is cool, but asides from the first "oh crap" moment in the prologue it's not been very well used. As an example we had Chapter 1-B which made you go through the same dungeon twice (thankfully with a shortcut), and fight the same boss thrice with different party configurations which was just boring.
I also dislike that the the "Dead Ends" are mandatory, I feel they would be way more interesting if you could avoid them with good choices.
I really like the expanded cast, finally getting more time with Elaine is great and Swim and Nadia have a fun dynamic with the rest of the group. I'm also enjoying the approch of having "sub-chapters" with different teams, it's a good way to use such a large number of characters while giving them all some time in the spotlight.
One thing I'm definitely disappointed is the Marchen Garden. I enjoyed the Reverie Corridor a lot and was expecting something similar, but this was a big downgrade. The dungeons are boring and long with crappy rewards, it doesn't have the fun character interactions that Reverie had, very few options for minigames and no story-related content like the Daydreams.
I’m playing “tinker with my devices”, but if I get any real game time it’ll probably be Balatro or maybe Luma Island.
I’ve been thinking about digging out my hacked Wii U to play Art of Balance though.
"Tinker with my devices" can be pretty fun. I have spent dozens if not hundreds of hours "playing" that.
