Lemmyvision is starting for the year. Here's one such post about it: https://lemmy.nz/post/19892616

We have until the end of the month to decide on a song to enter. Some rules in the link about, but basically:

  • We pick just one song
  • Regional languages (e.g. Mฤori) encouraged
  • Song must have been released after 1 Jan 2024
  • Must not be an international hit, the idea is to showcase music that people in other countries might not know

Last year we got 5th!

Should we enter again? Any ideas for what song to submit?

Reply with your suggestions and once we have a few suggestions I'll organise a poll.

Thanks :) I quite like how Lemmyvision makes us focus on our local music scenes a bit more.

Went down a real rabbit hole with the UK entry last year too. All these geriatric rappers and their record label was this guy's dairy.

I didn't get sucked down much of a rabbit hole but it did lead me to checking out a lot of different songs by The Northern Boys. So hilarious, I don't know how feddit.uk can top it this year but I hope they do ๐Ÿ˜†

The Northern Boys record label is Singhusworld which is actually a dairy/cornershop that got into music to make money to save the dairy from being shut down after it sold this home made drink (nonalcoholic). Their whole online footprint is priceless.

If you like Northern Boys you might like these gangster guys

Yeah I came across them in my travels!

Also this article which is entertaining but gets me no closer to understanding what happened ๐Ÿ˜…

I think Pete is Sindhu's piano teacher and Bas was maybe behind Basil Juice? Not sure how music producers (Handsome Dexter etc) fit in.

Norman Pain's (from Northern Boys) solo stuff is really good too. Sonnet especially.

That's - quite a different tone from the Northern Boys!

True, and nothing about them prepares you for it.

Not going to lie, I don't even know of any NZ songs released last year..

The only one I can think of was released in Jan this year, Alien Weaponry's Mau Moko. Not sure if metal songs are ok?

[-] [email protected] 4 points 3 months ago

If we're allowed January this would be a great choice. Alien Weaponry is impressive as always.

I don't see why metal songs wouldn't be allowed, and I think technically this year is allowed too. I think this can be in the running.

Aro - Totara

Revulva - Bush Bash (this is in english)

Shane Walker - Natives of Aotearoa
