It's sad to hear that none of the huge players like UN, Germany or France pay enough.

Shame on all who are responsible for doing not enough in the EU.

Yeah, it would've been good if gematik (german health care) was more than a silver member. At least they are a member, compared to the german defense forces.

Ercom might be the company providing matrix for France, so France might also be a silver member.

maybe I am glad that XMPP was easier for me to setup

This pretty much. The article makes it clear by making one of the pictures a sorta representation of a black hole but yes, Matrix is quite intensive. XMPP runs on a potato.

that and there isn't a need to raise 500k in a month, OR ELSE!

They should stop trying to do everything at once. This whole game of trying to maintain a huge server is nonsense for such a small team. I believe they should drop it completely and focus on improving the protocol and technologies around it to make it smoother for people to host their own servers.

Yeah matrix.org is just too damn big and thus centralizing the network quite a bit. You have to federate with matrix.org if you want anyone to be able to contact you on your instance since it's like 70% of matrix users.

they can't just close down a server used by lots of people

Technically of course they can.

But doing that I'm pretty sure that would largely damage everyone's trust in them.

does anyone has trust on them?

[–] ReversalHatchery@beehaw.org 1 points 1 week ago (1 children)

the matrix.org homeserver has the most registered users

[–] protogen420@lemmy.blahaj.zone 1 points 1 week ago

Just made a donation off the back of this. Thank you for posting

[–] krolden@lemmy.ml 1 points 1 month ago (1 children)

I wish I was rich so I could donate a bunch of money on the condition that they start encrypting the metadata

[–] protogen420@lemmy.blahaj.zone 2 points 2 weeks ago

I don't believe that Vector ltd. is altruistic, I wouldn't donate to it
