Showerthoughts

A "Showerthought" is a simple term used to describe the thoughts that pop into your head while you're doing everyday things like taking a shower, driving, or just daydreaming. The most popular seem to be lighthearted clever little truths, hidden in daily life.

Here are some examples to inspire your own showerthoughts:

Rules

  1. All posts must be showerthoughts
  2. The entire showerthought must be in the title
  3. No politics
    • If your topic is in a grey area, please phrase it to emphasize the fascinating aspects, not the dramatic aspects. You can do this by avoiding overly politicized terms such as "capitalism" and "communism". If you must make comparisons, you can say something is different without saying something is better/worse.
    • A good place for politics is c/politicaldiscussion
  4. Posts must be original/unique
  5. Adhere to Lemmy's Code of Conduct and the TOS

If you made it this far, showerthoughts is accepting new mods. This community is generally tame so its not a lot of work, but having a few more mods would help reports get addressed a little sooner.

Whats it like to be a mod? Reports just show up as messages in your Lemmy inbox, and if a different mod has already addressed the report, the message goes away and you never worry about it.

Did this, since you can't change reddit usernames. But since I'm new to the fediverse, I did take a long time dithering over which instance I should register on.

Yea I had an automatic username with a nazi associated number and I could not change the username.

I've changed mine. Not that my previous name was embarrassing in any way, but I just wanted to change my name.

Someone swiped my username here.

My preferred nickname was taken on Reddit, I had to use a lame one (~5-10 years ago when I was creating the account).

My obsessive personality dictates that however awesome the platform is, if I can't use netvor (without any suffixes etc.) I just don't ever really form any attachment to the platform. Normally traits like this are problematic but it probably saved me from shittons of hours of arguing with Someone wrong on the Internet, so there's the bright side. 🔆

I'm glad you got it here then :)

And I understand that haha; but the good side is that even if it would be taken on one instance, you could just go to a different one.

It's more in line with my other online presence

I've always had trouble coming up with good user names, I think I lack imagination. Most of the time I just use my given first name plus my following two initials.

I actually came up with something for my Reddit account. I'm using the same one here I did on Reddit, except I have to spell the "-" special character since Lemmy won't take it. Reddit took the dash, but not the asterisk. I like my new one better actually. For those not Unix operating system aware, my user name (rm -r *) means "delete the world".

I’m happy my name was still available.
I like to have a consistent identity.

i'm using my original reddit username on lemmy, it got shadow banned without explanation over a decade ago, so i created a different one which became my main account, now with over half a million comment karma, stopped writing stuff on that site 2 weeks ago
